Description The classic apple tree, an iconic symbol of fertility, prosperity and in some cases - even the earliest days of man. Here in a controlled keepsafe to give it optimum conditions. But one has to wonder, is this the first tree that ever existed, synthesized by another species? Or is it humanity desperately trying to save one of the last?

This is my first of three submissions to the latest exhibit for the Luminarium's latest Gaia theme. Which I also proudly made it as the featured artist for the exhibit too and got interviewed, which can be seen here [link]

Created using Cinema 4D, Vue and Photoshop. I ran into a lot of issues with this one, being my last "complex" scene done entirely on my old computer. I owe a thanks to ~Kaioshen who rendered the Vue file for me since I would have been waiting days if I left it to my old system.

Other artworks will be uploaded in the coming days. I just don't believe in dumping a bunch of work at one. Let people digest one apple before feeding them the next

Great concept and execution, man. One of the best pieces from the release for sure.

The tree could be a realistic gift, as long as you have some yard space or a big pot The bubble might be costly and difficult to obtain though

This is great!!!!!!! btw what computer specs do you have now? I am thinking of getting a new one myself.

Chromattix In reply to Casperium [2012-06-18 03:59:43 +0000 UTC]

It says I have two 2.20gz processors, but what I wanted it for was the extra RAM which is the most important thing to me (since it's the only thing that limited me before) and it has 16Gb of RAM (compared to the last which had only a quarter as much) So no more "out of memory error" messages leading to crashes after a long render completes

The screen size is 13" wide (actual screen, not including frame) which is still the same as the last one, but at least it's not smaller. I would have liked a bigger screen but the only way to get one on an equally-powerful machine was to fork over another $1000...damn computers are expensive I hope this one lasts since I don't want to go through it again for another 4-5 years if I can help it

Render times have increased significantly though. A test render I did on the same Vue scene file on both computers (with nothing else open or running) had the old computer take 7 minutes to complete and the new one about 20 seconds So even if I get stuck with an hour or two long render now, I know that the same thing on my old computer would have taken all day

Casperium In reply to Chromattix [2012-06-18 06:09:43 +0000 UTC]

that is what I thought. I saw one with similar i7 processors and 16GB ram now all i have to decide if I want to pay a lot more for an NVIDIA card or go with the Radeon one.So far I am looking at around 1500.US.

Chromattix In reply to Casperium [2012-06-18 10:01:58 +0000 UTC]

I still get one message in Vue that says I don't have the correct drivers to use it in it's proper, hardware-accelerated mode. Which was kinda a kick in the balls after forking out $1600 for a new computer (and that was after a 20% discount due to a sale they had!) I can still use Vue and it renders really fast - but the actual operating of it when I do stuff isn't much better due to having insufficient drivers...And I'm no tech-head either so I don't know what drivers it does want and how I get/install them

Can you contact the makers of Vue and ask,,, or if you go to Facebook and ask Dax Pandhi (he is an expert and beta tests and creates things for the program) he is nukeation here on dA but rarely hangs here anymore.

Chromattix In reply to Casperium [2012-06-19 00:20:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I noticed he hasn't uploaded or updated in a few years, which is sad since he was valued among the Vue community. And I was one of his earliest watchers, he and I were always letting each other in on our experiments and ideas But I think I've been dropped for bigger endeavours :loneley:

I don't have Facebook though, never cared enough about anyone or anything to sign up to that monstrous waste of time

Chromattix In reply to Hiliasin [2012-06-18 02:49:16 +0000 UTC]

I think I saw someone create a bonsai in a sphere on here before...but they said it died I think in real life there needs to be a constantly circulation of air and moisture around plants to keep them alive.

Who knows, it could be done, but I think for a few hours of the day the top would need to be removed so the tree can "breathe", but it's not really the same. All I can suggest is using a fake tree that won't die

Looks very cool.

Are the details on the walls modeled or just a texture?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to timothyege [2012-06-18 02:21:46 +0000 UTC]

Modeled It took longer, in fact half the time spent in total was on the walls, but since I didn't know how close or far the final render would be from the walls, I figured I'd model the details on there just to be safe.

Chromattix In reply to Leilanee [2012-06-18 02:11:46 +0000 UTC]

I haven't played that, but I know it contains a lot of high-tech machinery

There's two types of futures I guess, the grungy dystopian future which is usually more popular in sci-fi games, movies and art. And then there's the super clean, shiny, high-tech future that I actually prefer

Leilanee In reply to Chromattix [2012-06-18 05:27:12 +0000 UTC]

We might have it too (my parent's DVD collection is ridiculous...all they do for fun is watch movies ) But being romance-oriented, that's probably I didn't bother seeing it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leathurkatt-TFTiggy In reply to Chromattix [2012-06-18 02:34:31 +0000 UTC]

While it's romantic in a way, it's more mythological oriented than actually being a romance movie. It's more about the romance of the soul and the lives of the soul than anything else. At least that's my interpretation of it anyway.

I was thinking of doing a drawing like this awhile back before I stopped drawing, but your version is a LOT better than the one I was thinking of in my head. The apples area a great touch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to ThomClyma [2012-06-18 01:55:57 +0000 UTC]

That happens to me sometimes. It's only after I saw someone else do the same thing I only thought about that I wished I actually did it, since that means I couldn't claim the concept even though I had it in mind first

Glad you liked this. It needed more colour than just green and grey, the apples were chosen instead of flowers since they seemed more traditional, and I have heaps of flowering trees in my gallery but not fruiting ones

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThomClyma In reply to Chromattix [2012-06-18 02:13:10 +0000 UTC]

Exactly, seeing your version makes my want to actually get back into drawing and attempt it, but if I did, I'd feel like it was a clone, or go out of my way to do everything completely unlike yours.

How'd you make the tree? did you model that or is it a plug-in?
