SURPRISE!!!...I bet you all thought I already had my Christmas deviation for this year submitted already with Frozen Flurry galaxy and even I thought that was going to be it too. But I realised I had enough time to make a more formal Chrissy deviation and like never before - post it on the actual day
All my first christmas deviations were landscapes, and had cold blue/white colour combinations, so this year I wanted something completely different and decided to make a character the focal point rather than a tree (though you can see The wishing tree in the background lol) as well as choose a much wamer colour scheme - red and gold which was inpsired by a lovely poinsettia plant I got, you can seem them around the edges in here too
My concept here can be taken any way you want...the man in the red suit could just be a guy dressing up for the day, but on a deeper level - could he be the young Santa Claus before the beard (and the gut) came in? I'll let you decide
I used a found pic here as reference for the pose only, but all other concepts for the character design, clothing and surroundings are original and mine. Hope you like!... Though I only disabled critique on this particular one since it took a long time and I'm not sure if I could find motivation to work on it any more, so if you really need to crit, then do so if you know what you are talking about, But I most likely wont bother making any changes

it's under warrenty, just is irritating because I had to get that picture done and so...had to ...swear a lot....LOL I hope you had a merry christmas. Red, love the colour red.

That is a beautiful Christmassy illustration, I like the composition. All the details are pretty and I like the outfit design. His hair is pretty and I like how it flows. I think his eye is a little off from where it should be on his face, but other than that the overal character looks good.

Thankyou, asides from trying to get a nice and accurate-looking character, the next major step would have been Composition, and unlike my normal methods - I pretty much made this one up as I went along (for instance, the archway was a well-fitting idea that I only came up with once I was already halfway through lol...there originally was going to be nothing but the tree in the background) Glad you like the outfit deisgn, I wanted something a bit more formal here, and long hair MUST have that god-like flow to it

Ah ha, well thats the fun thing about art, you don't always know where your creativity will tak you next! I would agree also with the hair, it just has to have that epicness.

Bravo! Very interesting and, yes, very different from your previous Christmas images. If his ears were pointed he might be the Elfin Father Christmas however, I rather see him as an incarnation of the spirit of Christmas in some other remote Cosmic realm . . .

Yes,you made the right choice, at least for an Earth-based Santa however, perhaps Santa/Father Christmas might look a bit different if he lived on a planet orbiting Polaris, the North Polar Star, rather than at the North Pole. Your image is gret just the way it is however, since this is digital, you could easily try the effect of pointed ears . . .

Lol, Since I like fine, artsy patterns in my own clothing, I then have to give the same to my characters too! making creative jewellery ideas is tough - since being a guy, well you can imagine I don't wear much of the stuff

Thankyou, I gave colours some careful thought as I went though, and lucky I did since I don't think my original colour scheme I had in mind when I was doing the pencil sketch of the character would have come out this nice

Thanks, the tree took a long time to do on it's own, it was like drawing my "the wishing tree" deviation all over again
You call that shiny fluffy stuff "Strimmer" over there? we call it "Tinsel" here, but yes, it goes around his neck, but under the jacket-collar, all the way into his other hand lol. But it was supposed to be black rathe rthan green...Even though green is a traditional Christmas colour, I wanted to avoid using any "cool" colours in this, so there's no green at all (But he has got blue eyes, for a bit of contrast)

other than the obvious(that this is really nice ;D), the only thing I could comment on is that the arms are a bit too short, and the other thing is that the way his head rests on his neck is a bit strange, because you made a fine line separating the jaw from the neck, while in fact it's one piece of skin.
other than that, I like the colours, very tasty C;

Thanks, I spent a while deciding on what colours to do his clothes too, I was actually considering white at first and giving the man red hair, but I switched them around since this seemed more appropriate for the Santa theme
