Description Well it took long long enough (like, two years) but I finally managed to find someone online who could help me realize my earlier Rockstar Leather Jacket Design submitted in 2012. I'm actually surprised the search took so long, guess custom-made leather jackets aren't particularly a high demand product

Since the first image I submitted, some change shad been made before I sent it off, mostly for the sake of practicality, such as sticking with only one set of cuff-belts around the arms instead of two, removing the shoulder chains and a couple of other less-necessary details too. But it remains at least 90% true to the original design of which had various different sources of inspiration - I noticed that in games, anime and the music scene I always saw these really cool jackets and I wondered why such a thing was so hard to find for real.

Admittedly, now that I've seen it in real life (it does look nicer in person than it does in these rather unflattering photo's) there are probably a couple of choices I could have made different. The collar I feel needed to be shorter, that part was inspired by ones I saw on long coats rather than jackets and so probably was best left to those. The colour is a tad off-red, by my own request that is (I asked for Cherry red, which certainly looks pretty, but perhaps a more traditional red may have done the design more justice) and something tells me that spikes may have looked cooler than studs So one could say this is somewhat of a "prototype". However a prototype can only be called that if there's the possibility of more to be made of which will appears slightly different, and so far this is just a once-off thing I bought for my own satisfaction and not a line of new clothing items that will be for sale.

However, while this particular jacket still remains in a very new state (only worn for these photo's so far, and still has that new car jacket smell) I may even consider selling this one to anyone interested that offers a realistic offer So I can claim back some of my expenditures and perhaps get a second, slightly different one made which will be the final design and I might even then consider making it available via The Jacket Maker (the place that did this one for me) which is something they offered but I turned down (I was not sure if I was going to get paid for any of my designs sold...probably should have asked that though) But so far this one is the first of it's kind

Note: Keep in mind I'm only the designer of this jacket, not the maker. Maker's did a damn fine job though

Hmm, I suppose I'm not totally attached to it to not be willing to sell it, especially since when reality struck I realized I'd have few places if any to wear it But It was very expensive, I'd need at least half of what I spent on it back

As someone that dabbles in fashion design and cosplay, I have to say that this is fabulous. I love leather jackets and its so cool that you found a professional to make your design (even if it was pricey)! I make over 90% of my clothes and props (some of which are pretty complex), but there's no way I could make something like this. Still, I love custom clothing. There just isn't enough cool-looking stuff in the stores nowadays, even here in the US, so making stuff is the way to go...for the right price anyway.

Chromattix In reply to UniverseDreams [2015-08-04 14:20:32 +0000 UTC]

I must admit, the end result did fall short of expectations in some ways - I don't wear it as much as I'd expect to (actually it kinda just sits in the wardrobe for now) I'm trying to figure out what to do with it But I did learn some valuable points about design from getting it made though, so I know what to look out for should I get another done

Indeed the in-store selection of clothing is often so bland. I always buy my clothes online now since nothing I find locally is interesting enough

UniverseDreams In reply to Chromattix [2015-08-04 14:47:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's always trial and error with making clothes, so at least you learned from it.

I'd really love to buy more clothing online (there's sites out there with some really awesome classic and vintage stuff), but shopping for women's clothing is a nightmare and with nearly every company having a different sizing chart, nothing that I order ever fits. That's why I make most of my stuff (truly custom clothes, ftw), but that gets expensive too after awhile.

That would be pretty cool. But for now it's just a once-off thing. Hopefully I'll be able to get better pictures of it later (especially since now I have ad the collar fixed to a more normal size)

It's wonderful, I like it! (but it won't fit me, no matter what )
It really suits you and I agree that the colar should be half the size it appears to be. Spikes would add a rocky style and make it look way more awesome!
Good luck on finding a good buyer or a good chance to create a second one, which will turn out way better!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to 20Tourniquet02 [2015-01-17 01:27:01 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I see some people like the idea of spikes, and others don't. Still not sure if I should make some design changes and get another. The decision would be easier if they weren't so expensive I suppose even if I can't find a buyer for this one I'll keep it packed away safely as a prototype, my first model so to speak

Though I am skinny guy, so in jackets I tend to go for a size Small (this one was made to measure, but if you could compare it to a store-bought jacket it would be a small)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

20Tourniquet02 In reply to Chromattix [2015-01-17 15:17:49 +0000 UTC]

You can still do some minor changes in the colar, but ok. I'll leave that to you!

Trust me, the male Small size is something between the Female Large-Medium. And since I'm tiny myself, I always go for Small. There are very rare occasions where I go for Medium sized clothing. Unless you may prove your point with measurements!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to 20Tourniquet02 [2015-01-18 00:48:57 +0000 UTC]

I suppose it wouldn't hurt if I ever decided to get another made. I did put enough money aside for two should it have ever come to that, though I was hoping to nail it in just one. But I suppose finding out what not to do is just as important. If I get another I'll just put this one away somewhere safe, and either keep it as a personal record or sell it if someone ends up wanting it bad enough. As for the size - it does sound like you're a bit small for it. Girls sizes usually are a step down from mens sizes

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

20Tourniquet02 In reply to Chromattix [2015-01-18 01:04:48 +0000 UTC]

That's true. In the end, it's you who will decide whether you need a "revamped" version of the "prototype" made or not. Also, keeping it somewhere safe may actually be a very nice decision, since you may change your mind later on and want to wear it again.

I know I'm tiny and I'd look like a kid trying to wear their parent's clothing! Β  You should see everyone's reaction when we compare the shoe's number and the hand's palm.

Every time I rediscover that you also design clothes now I find myself a bit surprised

I'm not they type for this kind of thing but it looks rather good on you I must say. There will always be a need for "really cool jackets" though, so it's great that you're on to that ^^ I'm rather curious about the cost of this custom getup though

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to MoonlitCrescent [2015-01-17 01:12:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've only designed a couple. I was just trying a little experiment, but unless someone offered me a job in that field I can't see myself designingΒ  alot very often

I won't lie - this cost somewhere in the hundreds. But the quality speaks for itself when viewed in real life. The pictures really don't do it justice.

MoonlitCrescent In reply to Chromattix [2015-01-17 17:14:06 +0000 UTC]

That's what I was guessing, after a quick look at the site and their prices, haha. It must be awesome to have your own one of a kind fully your own jacket

Chromattix In reply to MoonlitCrescent [2015-01-18 00:37:43 +0000 UTC]

I suppose I'd take it over spending my weekend nights serving dinner to people like I do now But one thing I need to mention is I hate travelling, so any job I can't do locally or over the internet is one I'm not interested in. Suckers may want to spend 4 hours on a train to get to work - but I sure don't

It is really cool to actually have it. Though I must admit there are some design choices I could have made different

Ah, a man after my own heart haha... generally I hate travel as well. I know, how nutty is it to spend so much time with no point or purpose?

I bet it is. That's what prototypes are anyway, aren't they? A trial to see what you can change for the better should you build on it again later on?

Leather is waterproof silly. Of course that doesn't mean you should go scuba diving in it, but it's ok with some snow. In fact I have been glad my purse is leather many times when it rained so much that it got soaking wet.. but thankfully my stuff inside remained dry. Of course the moment I get home I wipe it dry with a towel. XD

KakashiMorph In reply to Chromattix [2015-01-17 12:17:44 +0000 UTC]

A few drops of water are enough to ruin suede, yes. Proper leather is waterproof though ( as long as you take care of it of course).

*sadly licks screen* so gorgeous.... ;Q;
How much did it cost you to get this beauty made??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Yorulla [2015-01-16 04:31:12 +0000 UTC]

It was quite costly. About $500. Some would say that's a lot to spend on a jacket - but I know plenty of people who have spent a week's wage (hell, even a months wage) on equally frivilous stuff (you should see my brother's growing collection of high-quality Marvel figurines, one of those alone cost more than this did, and it just sits on a shelf) others I know tragically drink or gamble that much in a month too. So I certainly wasn't short of reasons to justify spending that much on a jacket that's well-made enough to last for years
But like I said - in a way I consider this to be more of a prototype. It's about 90% what I expected but given the money I'd probably get another done which would essentially be the same, just a different collar and a different (darker) shade of red. So I'm open to selling this one if it ever comes to that point (obviously not for $500, I'm willing to cut some losses but it's certainly still too nice to give away for even just half that) since I don't have room in my wardrobe for two

Edit: I should mention that price was how much it cost me in Australian dollars. Which sadly aren't as high as they were a couple of years ago when I was hoping to find a maker then when it would have been more practical for me during that brief time the Australian Dollar was actually higher than the US one. If I was in the US it would have cost me less than that. But I'm used to suffering through what I like to call "The Australian Tax" - the inevitable price markup when buying stuff online from the US

but man... those prices.. >___<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to LeatherHead72 [2015-01-16 04:06:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yes it came out very nicely. Once again - much nicer in real life (these photo's make it look somewhat "plasticy" but in reality it's very obvious that it's made of real leather). I do like padded surfaces on jackets since they add a sense of detail and bulk to the design. That is one buckle holding the belt, and as for pants - I do already have a pair of solid-black leather pants that I wore in another photo here in Blood 'n' Gold that would go nicely with this since they also have that same "ribbed" pattern on them. But really I was thinking of having any extra red not appear until further down (I saw some really cool red and black boots online) Only thing is the type of red on the boots doesn't match up with this one so it might not look right when worn together (One of the reasons I'm kinda thinking I should have perhaps asked for a more traditional red instead, it would have been an easier to colour to find and match) But I do have black and silver boots that would go well with this too. I'm thinking I might wear it all out to a convention I'll be going to during this year. Though until then I'm still open to anyone buying this one off me if they like it that much in which case I can use the money to get the same jacket done again in a more standard red with a different collar. But even if not - this has a lot of potential when worn with certain other elements (and once I actually bother to cut and bleach my hair again, here it's been left "as is" for quite a while now and is due for both, the jacket will probably look better again when I have shorter, whiter hair again)

deVere [2015-01-16 03:03:37 +0000 UTC]

Finally! Congratulations!

Very cool design, and it seems to be good quality too. I disagree with you regarding spikes instead of studs; I think you made the right choice, but what do I know - I'm far from an expert on either leather jackets, design in general or your sources of inspiration. The studs add a touch of badass, but mix in with the overall design very well. Spikes would be too much - too aggressive - and confuse the design (imo ofc.). Taking an inch off the collar, might be a good idea. though. I suppose, that could easily be done, and it would probably create a more balanced look. The belt is just magnificent - in itself, and in harmony with the massive red square on the front, as a sort of counterweight. Great! Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to deVere [2015-01-16 03:17:07 +0000 UTC]

You might be right regarding spikes. Studs is probably a safer option to stick with and still really add a touch of that "metal" look just as much one again, the reflective nature of them looks better in real life as it changes with movement and lighting conditions etc) Plus it's easier finding things that could match it this way, so I might remove the spikes from the re-design I have on file

As for the collar, it does look more balanced when the jacket is worn open at the front, since the whole thing becomes more spread out that way. Still, I'm going to see if I can find a local tailor who knows how to work with leather and might be able to shorten it. I agree it could stand to be an inch or so shorter.

The belt I'm very happy with though and I think it's one of its coolest features
