Description A man-made Solar System, fully functional or just a hologram? - it's up to the viewer . Though it was created with the theme "Genisis" in mind, like a new artificial dawn in my interpretation since that's the theme of The Luminarium 's 8th art exhibit, of which I also had othe rideas for too - but I only had time to make this one among other things I'm working on.

This evolved significantly and is evidence on how gaining outside opinions really can improve an artwork. But the biggest help came from *SomniCelestia who suggested this steep and dynamic perspective...beforehand, my theme was still in the right place but the angle was straight-on and pretty boring. I think I need not only think outside the box when it comes to concept, but perspective too. I'll just have to see

All models made by me in Cinema 4D, imported to Vue where they were textured, lighted and rendered (blurred reflections made the base render take friggi'n 26 hours to render ) and a lot of digital painting over it afterwards as it looked far too much like a room in a game beforehand

P.S - in the off chance someone buys a print, it can potentially be hung upside-down too for a different perspective of the same scene

There is no game version though, just a 3D model I have (well, used to have, not sure if I still do)

Very look. Almost looks like some sort of Reactor until you notice the orbit lines of the other planets.

Yeah I can't remember where I got my inspiration from for this one, but some kind of reactor-like cliche was definitely on my mind

Almost has a Megaman-ish feel to it in the shape. I could see an Energy Tank floating there instead of the Solar System, xD

And I thought that the Climate Capsules were energy gluttons. This one probaly needs much more energy to maintain itself.

Amazing!!!
Although, if it's an escale model of our real solar system there is less planets. Any way, this piece is fantastic!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to zariots [2011-03-23 01:53:15 +0000 UTC]

Nah, not the real Solar System. Eight (or nine if you count Pluto) would have been too much art-wise. So I just made random planets similar to but not the same as ours (there's only two gas giants here, a Jupiter and Uranus-like one )

Solziv [2011-03-17 09:06:10 +0000 UTC]

A great concept, and a very beautiful colourscheme for it. Purple always strikes me as a power or royal colour, so I think that element also fits it very well. I love how it works upside-down or the right way up. I also really like the textures of this piece.
So overall I adore this picture. It's very inspiring. 9/10.

Chromattix In reply to Solziv [2011-03-17 09:43:48 +0000 UTC]

Purple to me is a dark, mysterious colour that looks great for fantasy and sci-fi art (might as well use it for those, it never fits into realistic work) It's also my favourite colour for its appeal and rarity

DTKinetic [2011-03-06 14:52:16 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I've never seen this image before in your gallery but looking at the date I feel really late in discovering it. I like the machinery/drill design--oftentimes they can be quite challenging things to draw--and how you layered it with red beams and yellow capsules. Oh and of course the angle and the violet are great too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to DTKinetic [2011-03-07 00:13:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! That's why I change my featured deviation every month - there's so much works people tend to overlook since my gallery is so big now Machines definetily are a weak spot for me, maybe I just don't understand enough about engineering to make a convincing machine-oriented piece, while most other sci-fi artists seem to specialize in just that stuff I still love the colours here too though

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

ShadowDrakkon [2010-12-05 02:12:50 +0000 UTC]

This is astronomical (no pun intended)! The detail has it look like three dimensions, or there is the creating of a synthetic solar system within the machine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to ShadowDrakkon [2010-12-05 02:34:10 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou! I did use 3D in this one, so that explains the 3D feel after modelling and rendering it though there was a fair amount of postwork to make it look more artistic

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowDrakkon In reply to Chromattix [2010-12-05 05:51:36 +0000 UTC]

Very welcome! Oh, I get it. You certainly succeeded in making it look artistic and realistic. What program did you use for it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to ShadowDrakkon [2010-12-05 09:39:59 +0000 UTC]

The 3D parts were modelled in Cinema 4D, textured and rendered in Vue, and the postwork/painting was done in Photoshop

Chromattix In reply to Kyros-XIII [2010-06-15 00:51:14 +0000 UTC]

Nah, believe it or not I'm actually not very into sci-fi games...many are too dark and serious for my tastes

I have a fairly good knowledge of what Metroid has though since I'm still a Nintendo guy above all, just not those games in particular

Lol, I'm looking forward to playing that too...now I remember, this was actually loosly inspired by Super Mario Galaxy even (as is one other pic I have) in that the orbit-paths are visible rings in the first Super Mario Galaxy the stage-selection area is much like that too

Kyros-XIII In reply to Chromattix [2010-06-15 01:19:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh, yes. I had forgotten about that. I liked to go to all the Lumas with Galaxies at the observatory and make all the Galaxies appear in the sky. My birthday's coming up, so maybe I'll drop a hint about that...
