Description A man-made Solar System, fully functional or just a hologram? - it's up to the viewer . Though it was created with the theme "Genisis" in mind, like a new artificial dawn in my interpretation since that's the theme of The Luminarium 's 8th art exhibit, of which I also had othe rideas for too - but I only had time to make this one among other things I'm working on.

This evolved significantly and is evidence on how gaining outside opinions really can improve an artwork. But the biggest help came from *SomniCelestia who suggested this steep and dynamic perspective...beforehand, my theme was still in the right place but the angle was straight-on and pretty boring. I think I need not only think outside the box when it comes to concept, but perspective too. I'll just have to see

All models made by me in Cinema 4D, imported to Vue where they were textured, lighted and rendered (blurred reflections made the base render take friggi'n 26 hours to render ) and a lot of digital painting over it afterwards as it looked far too much like a room in a game beforehand

P.S - in the off chance someone buys a print, it can potentially be hung upside-down too for a different perspective of the same scene

WOW! Very impressive 3D render. And modelled in my favorite 3d render engine C4D!
I like the brushed methal shaders! Great ligthing and coloring! WOW!

Thanks! Cinema 4D was the only program I got any kind of professional training in - and that wasn't much either but it's just enough for me to create something nice to become part of a bigger work made in either Vue or Photoshop later (often all three ) so I'll be sticking by it for now. The materials were done in Vue actually, while I found ways to make that same brushed metal effect in C4D, it was a bit harder in Vue to get the same so a lot of that stretched-specular effect was also careuflly painted in (I forgte the proper name, anisoptric it might be, I'm sure you know what I mean anyway )

Thanks for faving too!

Hi Matthew,
right ANISOTROPIC is the name for that shader system.
It is highly improved and I use it for creating brushed surfaced since Release 9 i guess...
You did an outstanding render!

I made an solar system render myself some years ago [link] but lately I have fun doing human and none human renders in C4D like this [link] and this [link] ...

Ahh good, I got it right

Character modelling is something I would do if I had the knowhow, I'd only ever do characters in 3D if I knew I could do them well and on my own, instead of relying on Poser I usually use it to do the one thing I can't yet do properly in 2D art - buildings, machines and anything very angular

I once did a human modelling some years ago. [link]

And it is one of the most hards things in the 3D world.
Organic modelling! Zbrush is a great system to do that. But I never had the time to get in to it...
Since Cinema4D is able to have direct acces to poser files (without needing poser) I like doing organic renders...
It is time intes enough to improve the skin, eye and hair shaders using the c4d shader system and creating a realistic
light and reflection system, believe me!

This is a wonderful piece. I love the angle, especially (probably because I have a hard time achieving that effect in my own work). I really got a "charged" and "energetic" feel from the sun, like something's about to blow!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to AlainaM [2009-12-30 06:22:38 +0000 UTC]

I guess the Sun is constantly exploding anyway, gravity keeps it from blasting out to bits well I'll admit I kinda cheated on the perspective - the use of 3D really helped me freely play with angles (at the expense of the many hours it took to model and texture the machine in the first place ) plus that dynamic perspective was suggested to me by *SomniCelestia if I remember correctly my original idea was just straight-on lol

Thanks for faving too

i was just about to say Mars is beafore the asteriod belts.

But this isn't our solar system is it haha.

Very catching piece of work here.

I really like the idea and feeling of the shading and lighting.

Well done mate

Lol, I can't beleive how many others thought it was supposed to be ours, but nine planets (even the 8 main ones) would have been too much, they would have to had been smaller and closer together making them harder to see and too many orbit paths too, so yeah - just a fictional one

Glad you liked it, the base for the lighting was acheived in Vue but lots of extra stuff for this one had to be done in Photoshop

Beautiful pic. Love the details in the models and the colors are fantastic!

Great concept too.

If anyone lives on any of those planets, it would be a monumental discovery to find the edge of their universe...wonder what would happen if they accidentally turned off the machine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to magicclam [2009-12-15 07:13:26 +0000 UTC]

Lol, if that were us we actually would have found the edge of our universe ages ago...I guess humans do evolve pretty quickly when you think about it Though you could fool them by painting or projecting agalxies and stars on the machine walls

If it gets turned off, then they're dead - simple as that

LE GASP! So... when we look beyond our solar system out into the depths of space... we THINK we're looking at millions of stars, but it's all a facade! They've hidden the truth from us!!! They created the solar system!!

LULZ! This is very good! Awesome! You must have a serious love for planets and spacescapes!

Chromattix In reply to InfiniteFruit [2009-12-08 07:39:29 +0000 UTC]

It would be very trippy if that were the case, but I doubt it but if so, I wonder what was the point of their experiment they say God created man in his image, maybe the inventor of the machine looks human after all

Thankyou! the scene in 3D was symmetrical, making it one of my few peices that could be viewed it either way (some of my little planets are like that too, but this one even moreso )

sry this took soo long. first off, i love the idea that u have resented here. alltho its very well done, i still feel that u could have made the planets a lil more visible, for i can only find 3 out of 6.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to bluenova25 [2009-10-15 03:07:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! as for the planets, in reality they would actually have to be smaller again in comparison to the sun. I wanted to get some as small as possible without losing them altogether. In the full-sized image they're easy to spot, as they would be in a large print too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bluenova25 In reply to Chromattix [2009-10-16 18:23:15 +0000 UTC]

i understand that, wut i was trying to say was that maby u could brighten the other planets a bit more. or atleast the ones that u cant see. do u get wut i mean? also, i forgot. how often did u say i should change the soil for my bonsai?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to bluenova25 [2009-10-16 23:50:14 +0000 UTC]

Well the planets are different colours, some are naturally brighter than others. Imagine what real observers had to go through to find something so small and far away

As for the bonsai, how long have you had it, how long has it been in the same pot in the same soil? if less than a year I wouldn't worry about it

Glad you liked the colours, I tend to enjoy this combination

It's a great combination, 2 of my favorites combined. Green, purple, and orange. All of the BRIGHT varieties hehe.

But yeah... that'd be cool to find out our universe isn't as huge as people think. Also quite weird... so yeah. I dunno.
