Description
And it just had to be right before the weekend...TypicalAnyway, if you are sitting there and viewing this then that means either you are still alive or Heaven isn't as exciting as you hoped (either that or Hell managed to live up to expectations
But at least it also means the past few days of my life weren't wasted either. Since to get this done on time it was really just work and do this. I had been planning on making a special submission for this date since over a year ago yet somehow I still managed to leave it to the last minute, though I wasn't expecting to be as busy as I am now. Thankfully I was ale to save a lot of time on the city by using some old building models I really should re-do by now, but with so many together in a dark setting they worked surprisingly well. I did also use some "real" ones though from some photo's I took a few years back too...I knew someday I'd need them, even if that someday was the last day

Great work with great impact! (Sorry for the word play )
Somehow a bit scarry, since this is exactly how I imagine the end of humanity.
But nonetheless beautiful.

This is one of the ways I envision the end of the world, but in a more "Hollywood" kind of sense where something really epic happens. In real life we would probably face a less awesome way to go out, like some plague outbreak or degenerating into a medievel state when we run out of resources

Posible as well, yeah.
I guess the reason way I imagine the end like this is because of human tendency for war... unfortunately.

I had forgotten about that and spent the day sleeping and going on my laptop haha.
I see Hell doesn't accept procrastinators and lazy people like me haha.
This piece is really detailed, I admire your patience for drawing each and every one of the building. The lighting also give a really dramatic look. I would have never have thought the world would end up ending in such a way but I love your interpretation of this day. A huge explosion followed by many others it looks realistic and terrifying! Great job and keep up with the awesome work!

Yeah, it slipped by quite unnoticed. Odd how nothing anywhere in the world happened at all - not an Earthquake or Tornado or anything that would have made people start screaming "IT'S HAPPENING!!" Yep, the supposed "End of the World" was quite a slow news day indeed
So much for sloth being a deadly sin Thanks for the compliments. I did want it to seem quite real, and that's what makes it terrifying

Amazing Mattew. You have done it again my friend! And with this high quality painting you achieved an amazing goal! My favourite thing? The explosion of course. Pretty realistic, but there is something i don like much, maybe it doesnt look many natural for me, or maybe the bomb used here was a very specialy and so-advanced one! But the overrall concept is amazing. Outstanding! Nice work.
By the way, wich was the most difficult part of this drawing my friend? I am curious to know.

Thankyou! While I did look at plenty of photo's of real explosions - I just wanted mine to look more unique and intimidating, something whose scale and origin is unknown As for the hardest part - creating the city definitely took the most amount of work

And you achieved that effect dude. Congratulations on it! Wow, you created all the buildings? One by one? Didnt you used some stock or something similar?

The buildings are 3D models I made in Cinema 4D ages ago. There's actually a lot of duplicates in there though

That is so even great! You created your own resources of course! I see you are truly epic! Even for being a self-taught artist! Since you mentioned me before you have learned everything almost by yourself! Admirable!

Whoo hoo, another end of the world scenario survived!
Any of you remember the Y2K scare?
Computers would crash and roam the streets looking for organic life to savage when date data got corrupted. Out of control nuclear reactors would belch radioactive gasses into the air. The System would collapse and people would crap into black garbage bags to their eternal regret.
Cats and dogs would go to movies together and enjoy a milkshake afterwards.
I remember during the last days of 1999, I could not get my two consecutive weeks for vacation.
Thank goodness that doomsday scenario did not happen.
On to the next possible disaster.
Looks great.

I more than remember it - I always use it as an example of previous "end of the world" dates that never came to be. I was only 12 at the time and did buy a little into the hype. But then again not fully as it didn't really stop me from enjoying the last year of childhood
Though the cats and dogs ting sounded nice Their ongoing war must have just been a show they put on for humans to further fuel our "which makes the better pet" arguments

There was a series of movies that had a cats vs dogs theme.
The second movie in the series had a great intro, it was like a Bond movie.
I remember the Y2k craze.
People were preparing for the System to break down and chaos to happen.
Buy yer guns, water and food before they stop delivering to stores.
Recently there was this Christian Cult talking about the end of the world sometime in the summertime.
I remember seeing people with desks and placards in the subway warning about the end of the world.

Hell will never be able live up to my expectations(no matter which religion you look that hastwo afterlives, I'm not geting in the good place) It's either Freezing beyond any measure, it froze after Lordi won Eurovision, or a gigantic Sauna.

I have actually heard of the traditional Hell being a freezing, dark void and somehow it got replaced by fire in modern interpretations of it Fire would be more painful I think, but then again - no-one has felt what -300 temperatures are like and lived to tell the tale

I think the viking "hell" was like that, to us Finns there was only a river.
I think hell, same as heaven, would be personal(first would reguire me to actually believe in them though). To me heaven would be closed to what Valhalla was descibed to be, and traditional christian view of heaven would be my hell(can you imagine a place with out beer?)

I always felt the same, even as I started to stop believing in the whole afterlife concept (I wish it were real, but there's just nothing to support it, not to mention the judgement system is pretty flawed ) But Everyone has different ideas of fun, so their "Heavens" would need to be based on their desires (even if it is full of beer and sexual encounters
) Meanwhile people might have more similar Hell's. We can all agree that burning and having our innards ripped out for eternity sounds like the worst thing ever
But we all have different fears. Some might find the concept of these tortures being performed on them by, say - giant ladybugs, scarier than the same thing with traditional demons
