Description
And it just had to be right before the weekend...TypicalAnyway, if you are sitting there and viewing this then that means either you are still alive or Heaven isn't as exciting as you hoped (either that or Hell managed to live up to expectations
But at least it also means the past few days of my life weren't wasted either. Since to get this done on time it was really just work and do this. I had been planning on making a special submission for this date since over a year ago yet somehow I still managed to leave it to the last minute, though I wasn't expecting to be as busy as I am now. Thankfully I was ale to save a lot of time on the city by using some old building models I really should re-do by now, but with so many together in a dark setting they worked surprisingly well. I did also use some "real" ones though from some photo's I took a few years back too...I knew someday I'd need them, even if that someday was the last day

I don't know what will get the human race first, when god comes or a nuceler war.
Any way this is on ansome picture, it look like someone toke a picture of it while it was happening.

I think it'll take a lot to kill us all Even the world's nukes all going off is bound to leave at least some behind, and if there's enough to breed and rebuild - humanity will come back. Like bacteria really - if you leave just one cell behind you will soon have a thriving population of them again later Though I admit with us it isn't that simple or easy

I have to ageriy with you on that,if nukes go off their will be people who go into underground shelters and live.

If we are viewing this while we are still alive, does this mean, that we are now living in a postapocalyptic world?

Any real apocalypse based on Maya dating would occur at the change to winter in the same timezone as the original culture, which would be the same as the eastern USA since the homeland of the Maya was east Yucatan and east of that in Guatemala and other such places. But the Maya never said anything about the end of time, only about the end of the calendar period. Anything else is a modern invention to make money out of it.

And lets not forget the leap-year phenomenon too - which I'm surprised didn't come up by now already ) Going by that it should have happened months ago I think
But I wanted to save mine for the day it was supposed to happen. That way I'll always have that date next to it on here
I do think it really was as simple as "this calendar ran out, we'll make a new one when we have to" like what we do every year They were masters at planning ahead though. Their calendar outlived their civilization

So it did. By quite a long way. I think they had the leap days covered, though.

KABOOM!!!
Sokka (from Avatar: The Last Airbender) was right, mushroom clouds are "friendly" after all.

As strange as this sounds considering the contents of my gallery - I actually don't watch many sci-fi shows/movies, including that But it's interesting how often stuff I do reminds people of things I've never seen before, their creators must have been on the same level

It's an awesome series, so try to watch it if you can. The pilot itself will make you want more. The global annihilation of the world of Caprica will make you think of your piece.

This is really amazing I really like the effect and the mushroomclouds in the far distance. The same goes for the one that is focused. I love it...Happy Doomsday everyone

Adding a second one was a bit of a last-minute decision, as I worried it would take away from the focal point of the main one. Then I realized that it's big enough to not have to worry about that, and the only thing scarier than one massive explosion - is two!

Sorry for the late reply. But yeah it was a good decision. I really like the multiple explosions. That way it seems that there are more than one dangerous places and that the world really is about to fall apart. if you had just one explosion, it could also be a bomb or something like that. I really like the outcome. The style and the way you did it is brilliant as usual. Oh and congrats for surviving the end of the world...again

Here's a thought - what if it being the "last day" was literal? Not as in the end of the world, but that final day looping on itself endlessly, like the movie Groundhogs Day?

Chromattix In reply to Balmung6 [2012-12-21 13:06:24 +0000 UTC]
I never saw that movie. But it would be weird, though if time finds some random point and just keeps repeating on itself from there, then we all wouldn't have any memory of it. Waking up and doing the same daily activity we did thousands of times already would still feel like the first time...So I guess it wouldn't matter

True, but just in case at midnight tonight im going to peer outside the window. If I see a mushroom cloud like in this wonderful piece you made or if the sky flickers for a second like an old lightbulb going bad, im posting about it, xD

I gotta admit - that comment is clever enough to warrant having a stamp made out of it Too bad it's too late now, but hey maybe enough others will see it here
Yeah I never bought into it myself. If I did I wouldn't have spent my last days on Earth working on something that no-one would have been around to see

how are things going for you irl anyways, haven't heard from you in a while, so i'm assuming everything is steady ?

It is the minimum standard I hold myself to...and all it costs is my sanity
Unfortunately me going silent on dA is not my normal behaviour, so things aren't going as smoothly as they did for so long before. Lately it's all been work and commissions. Next year I gotta promise myself to not take on more than I can handle, since I hate going so long without doing any of my own pieces. Now I'm left with just days to whip up a Christmas one

i'll leave you with this mentality that i'm approaching life with atm: the only way we can truly show ourselves that we are growing as individuals is by setting goals and challenges and achieving them. this way we know that we are growing and becoming a better person and are getting closer to out personal life goals.
for you time management is the challenge, and finally getting a wrap over it will show you that you have grow intellectually and are able to organise your time and life
hope this will help chief

Yeah indeed. And it's ironic that one of the most spectacular sights in the world are those of destructive symbols (like a mushroom cloud).
