** EDIT** i'm actually kidding, i liked crisis core- once it got going- and advent children was alright.
DISCLAIMER: views of the fallowing are not to be taken seriously and therefore SAVE THE FANBOY HATE FOR SOMEONE THAT WILL READ IT!
now, gather around children and let me tell you of a magical time. it was 1997........ JRPG's were still relevant and people in America still had jobs
anyway, as years fallowed square started running out of ideas, and with the entire staff doing more blow than lindsay lohan, they needed to start making shitty games really, really fast and also start remaking shit that didnt suck for the consoles that are out today with little to no new content. and so they did. in a feat of irony that would rival henry kissinger's hate for all forms of life, square became the very same soulless, shit-spewing, cosplayer-endorsing, twatbiscuits that they set out to destroy = (
( metaphorically, of course)

so that about brings us up to date. you can take a wild guess as to what i thought of crisis BORE and advent........... uhm......... assholes ... but enough of my stupid horseshit, look at the art!
i did this sketch yesterday and decided to color it up to try and get re familiar with my process.
drawn with Sai painting thingamagigger and colored in one of the photoshop cs ( whatever the hell one it is that i have :S

While I never jumped on the FF7 bandwagon back when it first came out (highschool) I totally understand what you mean. Its like square rested on its laurels...and instead of being innovative, they started to become formulaic.Β To me FF4 & FF6 was better than 7. IDN, something about FF6 was just so uniquely epic. From that haunting ochestra intro to itβs super HUGE ending! From its bad-guys (kefka), to its multi layered character development, to its very addictive gamplay, and its grand soundtrack. It just had it all.
After that we got 7....which was great; but personally I donβt think it was the best thing since sliced bread (like many, many fans do) and then there was 8....which was a bit annoying at times, but atleast different. And then there was FF9....oh what a love letter to the good ol days ! (Sidenote: 9 was FF creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's personal favorite.
IMO, the problem started with 10. Not a bad game, but it was a bit corridor-y. I mean, there was an absence of that old hat exploration that we got in those other FF games. Plus, the story felt like a bad daytime drama. Ha-ha-ha ?
And I am glad im not the only one who thought Aerith was annoying, and didnβt cry when she died. Oh, the innocent mary-sue, perfect, virgin was killed before you could slime your way into her pants. Boohoo ! All I have left is this other woman with actual human flaws, fears, insecurities, a vested interest in me (since we were kids), a tuff side/sweet side(basically a depth of emotion), can hold her liquor, and her own in a bar fightβ¦and has what is ,essentially, 2 beach volleyballs for a pair of breast. Oh the horror! Ill just be an emo-git for the rest of the game instead; go cry in a corner,Β and listen to my stabbing westward CDs.

First I'd like to say, fantastic work. A bit more manly then the Cloud I remember, but you get the feeling across expressed in your rantings above.Β
I'd like to totally comment on them, by saying that... I agree! Frankly been ranting to people about this for ages. Zack is just another generic anime character, and most of the plots for the shitfaced pre-quel/sequels where all generic anime, recycled shit using already establisehd characters with an already established fanbase seeking to revisit a favored world.Β
I do disagree on Advent Children. Felt it was fitting. But I also like to blame it's success on the reason their desperation realized they had this gem to squeeze the remaining bits of life out of, so that the modern day FF fans could suck on the remains of a dieing series.Β
Sort of feel the same about the newer games. Generic characters with very generic personalities and boarderline slap stick plot/recycled generic plot. Blargity blarg blarg.Β

too bad you were kidding. I really like your picture cus thats more what a soldier looks like. I never imagen Cloud to be a cute, girly-looking emo-boy. He is a hero, not a boyband singer, model or a japanese cutie...I really hate who FailEnix has raped him and the entire FF7 crew over and over again...this picture actually made me happy, I even began to make my own painting of Sephiroth as he was seen by my eyes in the game...someone on youtube said Sephiroth = fear....I like that.

I've been a square fan for longer than I haven't been a square fan, I must say the older games are my part favourites, but that's because they were more of the firsts? I remember being so incredibly excited with each new FF I bought and brought home and was just in awe about the graphics, everything in the game did it for me even when I hated characters (cough tifa, cough rinoa).
I think that's just part of it. You either Love or Hate something that is really good.
MY favourite game so far by them is FF12. I know lots will argue with that, as my friends do, but this game REALLY did it for me. Beautiful cinema scenes, I actually liked all of the characters (INCLUDING the female ones xD as weak as they were.), I liked the battling, the only thing that would've been 100%A++ is that your main selected character have the hack&slash ability and it could be interchangeable with any character. I liked the gambits system for the harder, longer bosses or even just mindless leveling. I feel like that game is the first step into greater games for Squeenix.

Yoo this is a killer pic mate, and damn your right man havent played crisis core yet, though i seen the summons, looked pretty cool. Advetn children wasnt half bad but i hated the 2 gay sephiroth clones and the dumbas crying one. So lame. FF13 is the first final fantasy game i gave up a little after starting. Absolutely ridiculous. I second that cosplayer-endorsing shit man, I have little hope for versus 13, it looks ok but i really doubt final fantasy these days...

I love final fantasy, but what you are saying is completely true. I also agree Final fantasy 7 was the best and thats why I paid 80 bucks for it on ebay 2 years ago. I still have not beat the game and I can't get mad for some strange reason. Who cares i just wanted it for my own. Now they got a black guy with a baby chocobo (is a fuckin chicken) and on versus they got a new guy (cloud look alike) that dont even have to pick up his sword to fight.........thats new right? 
Is not the same every since the orignial crew left and went to microsoft. Thats why Lost Oddyssey was soo damn good. Anyway, Cloud looks really cool in this pic and Im glade you stuck with his original strings. Thank u soo much for this!!!
