Hi, it's me again, im in 's Project Designer Cycle 7. So this is my 2nd submission.Design Topic 2: Sheer Genius
BRIEF: This spring, many designers (especially Marky Marc) played with the idea of transparency. Design an outfit incorporating sheer fabrics, cutout panels, or whatever else you can think of to demonstrate that idea. Bonus points if your design has some kind of deeper message! (no amateurs please + thanks Maddie!). I would like to see a front view as well as a back view. Submit your design on this journal as a link in a comment.....
Name of Topic: Sheer Genius
Fabric(s): Tulle, satin
Model:Bette
Description:
Going into the romantic mood, this dress is inspired by jellyfish.i just feel that this theme suits this topic so much..
Sheer fabric are "dangerous"... as in, Not only it's hard to sew(especially if its super fine silk), its also hard to get a perfect design that sells..but i love sheer fabrics! they are so beautiful and speaks so much of femininity and gracefulness.. just like the jellyfish of course!
A little background about jellyfish:
Jellyfish are semi-transparent, graceful creatures. They are only 5% percent solid matter and form, and the remaining 95% is all water! They are known for the vibrant colours, red, blue, purple..etc.
Colour scheme:
violet purple - satin and the dip-dyed tulle
warm grey - top part of the empire cut.
darker warm grey to black - base of garment.
TOP: warm grey tulle is sewn over the dark violet satin. purple crystal chains are attached to the satin to ensure 'safety'
it goes to the back like halter, but a looser cut, i used purple jewel chains and pearls to hold the weight down.
MIDDLE: warm grey tulle with embroidered swaroski crystals.
BOTTOM: the inner layer is a darker tone of warm grey. attached to the inner layer, are strips of dip-dyed violet tulle are attached all around the body-conscious sihlouette. at 2 different levels, the leftover length are frilled a little to create the jellyfish's tentacles effect.
the tulle strips are treated with laser cut, so it won't fray. it is dip-dyed at the different points, the parts that did not touch the dye, are left transparent.
MAKE-UP: smoky eyes, with peach lipgloss and a hint of peachy bronze blush
CATWALK EFFECT:
Poor bette, her hair is wet and drenched just for the catwalk, so it's a little darker and curls a little.
i wanted her to walk barefoot, so that it gives an impression of her transforming to a human, and then walking out of the beach.. but nah.. its too sadistic.. so i give her a chunky shoe! (please turn the aircon warmer! i don't want her to catch cold)
ok! sorry for the long long description..
feel free to drop a comment. thank's!

the idea is excellent, along with the detail you've put into this.
my taste responds poorly to the hem of that dress, esp. considering how much detail is already in it. i definitely could be wrong.

thank you! after seeing it again, yeah... i don't like the hem either.. but i was actually worried if it was too simple while drawing.. so i added more details to make it couture-y.. with the thought of "the more the merrier".. but it seems like im on the fence now.. neither pret a porter nor couture! oh well, i'll do better next time! thank you!

I love it! I love your theme...Also, I applaud you on the fact that you not only used transparent fabric, but you made a sort of "peekaboo" affect with the strips of fabric so you see some of the dress underneath. Strong entry.
