I'm loving this, especially the clash of realism with the exaggerated size of his nose. My first impression was a fairly surreal one.
Your style seems to be very adept at telling stories (though I havn't had chance to check the rest of your gallery out yet.)
I think the man's so sad because he has such a big nose. I just love characters with huge noses, and it just works so well with the feel of sadness.

This is delightful. I love the way you've colored those birds. It almost makes them seem as though he could be imagining them.

and they all seem to occupy a similiar realm,
that they could exist together.

"November's cold chain
Made of wet boots and rain
And shiny black ravens
On chimney smoke lanes..."

You've captured the mood very well. Slightly bizarre, with a hint of melancholy. Well done!

What can I say...I love the way you use your watercolors and pencils. The man actually reminds me of the "penguin man" from Batman.

Your illustrations, are exactly the the sort that made me want to illustrate books when I was still a child
Keep up your wonderful work! You definately have your own style and a lot of talent.
And in this perticular image, I really like the atmosphere and the colour scheme. The man seems to be an interesting character, and I like the composition.

the old man lost his family when he was just a child. since then he was always lonely....until one day he went to a park near his house and noticed there were some beautiful birds...he was amazed because they had the freedom he never knew...they could fly...since that day he kept coming to that park every day...feeding the birds...and admiring them....until one day a bird said to him that she's his little sister...she told him her story...an old witch turned the whole family into birds...because his father didn't want to sacrifice his daughters for her magic...but luckily he wasn't home when that happened....
and so the old man understood that the birds didn't have as much freedom as he thought....they were miserable too...until he came and started visiting them....they were happy they found each other....but still sad because there was no way to break the spell.
