Description My guess is that this is the last WIP, unless I submit some more in scraps. I know I should really submit this too to scraps, but I really want (and need) critique. This is by far the largest project and picture I've ever worked on. I thought "The Deepest Sorrow" was long, but that was only a week and it didn't really slow down the computer all that much. This one is by now 215 mb, so it is... kinda big, only in size.

So, now all elemets are added and "only" refinement is left. I am thinking of adding just a little bit more canvas to the bottom, just to get more mountain into the picture. The composition feels much better now than it did before. I am thinking of adding the clouds near the moon a bit more solid than the others just to get some balance in the picture.

All elements of Ayamarian magic is in the picture now; the basic forms for magic comes from the earth itself, that is why her dress slowly turns into the mountain itself. The second element is the human - it is connected with the earth power, and is just as fundamental - if the human itself doesn't have magic inside him/herself, he can't use any other form for magic. There is a magic power coming from humans, from their soul, so to speak. The third, and highest, source of magic, is the magic moon which Rayhin holds in her hands (she is, after all, the goddess for magic and the one who created all this). It is a moon that can only be seen by those having a share of its power. But only a few can use its power to its full extent. Together, these three sources form Ayamar's magic, and combine in a jumble of different forms of magic. Dark Magic, Black Magic, Moon magic, White magic, Healer's magic... To mention a few. So here are all elements of that magic, together forming the one who made them. And the normal moon, just because I thought it would look good.

I haven't forgotten the light from the large moon, I just haven't added it yet. I am also struggling with the colour of the dress - it needs to be RED! But I can't change any of the light sources now, so I'll just have to find a way to work around it.

This is very beautiful, on much more than a superficial level.

Thanks a lot, I've really worked hard on this (still is, as it isn't completely finished...) so I'm glad it has paid off.

Aww, thank you so much! Really encouraging - it's not really finished yet, there will be more details on the dress, some light will be fixed, and the background will be refined a bit. But when it's finished (hopefully in not too long) it will definitely become a print

Oh, and thanks a lot for the fav too!

well firstly the critique - then the praise

the moon is a bit "not round enough" aside from that the craters are well done

her shoulder blades need to be a little bit higher up, her breasts a bit more prominent without being too busty, you know about the hands already too

now, the praise, from seeing the other WIP's i'm loving the dress, and it is very coral coloured, the light play on her face is excellent as is the clouds - spot on once more - bravo brilliant A++

Thanks a lot, both for the critique and the praise
I can see what you mean about the moon, I will remember it. And I'm glad you like the dress and the clouds

it's only a minor thing about the moon - needs an extra couple of millimetres maybe

Hmm... You said you wanted her dress red, but what kind of red? Bright red, dark red, light red? Right now it's more of a coral color. There are lots of orange tones in there. It's very close to the shade of her hair. This is just personal preference, but if I was doing this, I'd go for a very intense, very dark red. And if you want it to really pop and have depth, do your shadows and highlights in contrasting colors. For the shadows, I'd use very cool-toned purples and blues (cause they'd match your lighting), and for the highlights I'd probably use a very low opacity light, almost white green.

I love the light on her face though. That's beautifully done.

One other little critique that I just noticed - although her anatomy is obviously stylized (and well stylized at that ), her hands are proportionately a little small. Usually the hand is long enough to cover the face from the chin to almost the top of the forehead where the hairline starts.

Thanks very much - lots of helpful things there, and it's so good having something to base the further work on... I see now that the hands are short - I actually had no clue before. Oh well. And thanks for the advice on the dress, I'll remember it - right now it really look pasted, doesn't it?

You're quite welcome. And no, I don't think it looks pasted. It's just a bit monochromatic at the moment; it's just all done in shades of the same color.

You have definatly improved the clouds and the dress! The hair is absolutley amazing, as will it be when finished, although I suggest you add a floor (maybe) and make her bust a little bit...more...o_O Eh, well, I dunno how old she is. A little bit of refinment and if I had the money, I would buy a print of this!

Ciuva In reply to L130053 [2005-09-30 15:50:13 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, you're not the first who's mentioned the bust... Will do. She is a goddess, so she could be any age. I have some plans for the bottom of the pic - won't be a floor, but it will look better than this.

I'm really glad to hear that - I can hardly wait until it's finished And it's so relieving to hear that it is turning as good as I hoped it would..
