You might have heard the saying every Marine is a rifleman well when it comes to sailors in the USN we are all firefighters. Fire on board any ship could very easly send it to the bottom of the sea just as fast as any "perfect storm" which is why no matter the rank and no matter the position held every sailor is taught fire fighting as well as damage control. They learn this on a mock up ship in a relativly safe enviorment that can be shut down and restarted if things go wrong. That way every sailor is prepared for it in the case it does happen.

Here these sailors practice to fight any fire that may rear its ugly head in the future. The rate that is all about things like this specifically is called a Damage Controlman (DC)
