Description
Well, you can see what I think they are c; All in my opinion. Now, of course I have my reasons...This might be a bit scrambled not really 'full' but I don't have time rn. I might add more to it in the future!
To start: You know you can draw whatever you want, right? Like, you don't need to pay ridiculous amounts of money to draw a fox with a fan or something. Let's say there was some dirt - yes, dirt - on the ground. Would you pay to be able to use that dirt for yourself to grow flowers or would you get it for free for yourself?
You can get dirt without having to pay for it, and similarly you can draw something without having to pay someone for it.
I know 'dirt' isn't a 'myo' or character, but you know what I mean I hope ahhaaaa...:'O
Don't let dA users brainwash you into thinking you can't draw/do something freely and have to PAY someone for the '''rights''' to something. No. What the fuck.
I can't draw a dog with a bandana? Oh, okay, let me just pay $35+ to make my own dog with a bandanna, because apparently you have to pay for one now; pssh.
Those who buy MYOs...Seriously? It has NEVER struck you as odd/annoying/harmful or just made you a bit iffy that you're having to pay to draw something you could draw anyway for free??
I don't get it.
Why waste your fucking money?? Now I can't tell you what to do with it, but just...it's fucking ridiculous m8. Absolutely moronic and ridiculous.
At least go buy an existing design if you want to waste that money, not the RIGHT to DRAW/DESIGN something. There is absoultely no need to pay someone for the '''right''' to something.
Goes for all 'closed species' or whatever, but in terms of MYOs it's even worse!
Agree, disagree...

To be honest, I think that if you want to create a Closed Species you should :
- write lore, tons of it, preferably have your own character of this species and write their story
- start world building - how do they live? are they civilized? do they form communities, if so are they tribal-like, or highly advanced? how does technology in their world work? does magic exist? what is the enviroment like? what is the weather like?
- do a bit of anatomy studies, how do this species' bodies work? what is their diet? what are their strenghts and their weaknesses?
- oh and one that I always wonder about-- if it's an animal-like species that is sentient-- do they use tools? how do they hold them?
^ all that I could come up with so far
So while I don't necessarily hate people who just take a dog and literally stick just a bunch of items to it to fit an aesthetic, I still think it's incredibly lazy and they're only looking for profit and to sell them off like shiny trading cards to an audience of little kids who don't know any better.

I think what’s being paid for is a part in the community, and part in events and the group. You can easily just make your own, as I’m pretty sure most of these things aren’t original enough to copywright and you can’t get into actual trouble for doing it. I disagree however I see your standpoint.

I fucking hate the lazy ass species like waterdogs and cinnadogs n shit and the only reason they sell is because of the "aesthetic oWo" like no
bruh
bRUH its not creative to add water to a dog and be all " its closed you gotta pay 50 bucks to have your own guys its super uper oroginl" hell nah. Bless the idea of offbrands, they exist for those who dont wanna get buttfucked by the owners of the species and banned off of deviantart because they "omg they stole my original idea!!!". MYOs are worse to it because yOU'RE PAYING FOR SOMEONE TO DRAW SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS A DOG wiT A BIG ASS TAIL AND RAINBOW COLORS LIKE wHAT THE FUkC aRE YOU DOIN,, i have respect for actual original species that sometimes have a reason to be closed, as in the species is still in production or the species has something to offer is something truly and absolutely unique and is worth $54. but really when someone just gets an animal and for example has a knife tail and expects people to pay 80 bucks for one to be drawn is fucking outrageous. but no what am i saying,, obv a waterdog is worth more than a digitgrade fursuit
10/10 logic
great stamp tho my B.

Tbh I'm just taking a moment of silence to thank all of you offbrand people.
Reason? Well thanks to posts and opinions from you people its actually saved me 100's of dollars. Because if you do think about it, it is kinda weird to pay 15+ bucks to draw something. It limits peoples minds and creativity. When you could really draw it for free and call it a offbrand (because it is).
So just to thank all these offbrand people. If it wasn't for them id be paying my whole paychecks on myos. (which I get paid 5-40 bucks every month haha...)

Sooo I know a couple users below may have mentioned these points already but I guess I just wanted to summarize my point of view so:
I'd only buy a myo to be a part of the community surrounding that species but I'd never pay something absurd like 75£ or however much someone below said that sushi dogs cost (can you believe I've never heard of those things?). So yeah I treat it kind of like a paid membership to make your character an official part of the species' community. (I've never actually bought one ofc because I generally deal with open species and such but that's my two cents :3)
Oh, but I definitely agree with you on the fact that you should be able to draw a character with the characteristics of a closed species as long as you don't claim it as part of that species or whatever. (But then we'd have to get into the argument over closed species and I honestly don't know enough about those things)

I agree and disagree :3 it's not paying for the right to make it as much as to be a part of that community you can draw a fox with a fan just fine but you can't claim it as a part of the species it's not stupid it's fun and I don't find it odd or annoying I think it's really creative and it's wonderful a lot of people make a living that way do I wouldn't say buying a myo makes you a "moron" if you want to be a part of the species if your using it as trade fodder I would say you are
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Clear-Bright In reply to MomokoStar [2016-12-04 17:49:34 +0000 UTC]
Well I agree with you mostly, I'd only pay for a myo to be a part of that species' community (but there's no way I'd pay some of the absurd prices for water dogs or something) (even tho I don't even know what those are but according to the comments here they expensive af)

I think a lot of the artists (cinnabutt, witchpaws, etc) who make these are very skilled and I love looking at their art, but something about people having to pay large quantities of real money just for what is essentially permission to draw a character, is very odd to me. It's one thing to pay for a commission, it's another thing entirely to pay for an artist's approval to draw a certain design on your own.
It's things like this that make me glad I've never involved myself with closed species, MYOs or anything like them. I just don't get it.

I never got this comment in my feed, weird.
Exactly though. Commissions are different because you're, usually, paying to get art of your own designs or thoughts and want to buy it for the art.
Whereas buying the right to design yourself something is just very laughable.
I owned some cs characters, but some I gave away and others I'm not associating with the actual cs any more. I'm wayyy not into it :')

I don't really draw much, I'm a writer. I just make all my own characters to write about and that's the end of it. I can't quite imagine needing to pay real money just to use a character I like.
This whole concept is just ridiculous, the more I think about it. It's trying to exert an absurd amount of control over what you create, when as long as someone has access to the Internet, someday someone is going to draw a character very similar to yours and post it somewhere.

*flops in*
I really only buy MYOs for species with super extensive lore / amazing worldbuilding and an active community. I just really like to hang out with smaller communities of people who like similar lore and want to be part of the same world.
I guess I kind of see it as a paid membership to an exclusive club or something. Sure, you can draw whatever you want.. But that won't earn you entrance to the place where you can really use and RP with the characters you create alongside like-minded people.
That's just me though. I figured this might be a slightly different spin on the whole "MYO thing than you're used to. I do respect your opinion, though! MYOs for species that are completely unoriginal and have no lore or world are just kinda pointless. XD
