she floats about the wreckage
and picks between the bones,
She lingers at the fireplace,
for flame to her is drink,
but even if it it could be bottled,
it would never sink.

I love what you did with the mermaid here. I really appreciate when someone goes against the "pretty Disney princess" mermaids are usually perceived as and actually remind us that the mermaids of ancient mythology were pretty terrifying monsters. It feels like you showed a great understanding of source material, and you told quite the creepy tale, too.
