ooooh, nutella as a frosting! brilliant! although I think I would have to find a way to make it not so super duper sweet it would be too much for me straight like that. maybe mix with cream cheese? hmmm... time to experiment!

sounds like a good plan, also the raspberries cuts the sweetness if you don't add the jam and also adding a little less sugar in the cake mix too

you must use a LOT of butter/flour/sugar/eggs... at least they aren't that costly, you could have a more expensive hobby, so I say this one rocks (plus you get to eat your endeavors!)

Ohhh the raspberries must be a great contrast to the really sweet cake and nutella. Great idea!
I probably wouldn't cover them in jam though but enjoy the sour taste cause I love the freshness of it. But I guess children just love the really sweet stuff. Oh and you can make a really good chocolate cream to cover cakes by making buttercream with condensed milk instead of sugar and add some cocoa powder. That works really well except if the cake is still hot because then it melts xD

Oh yes the kids love their jam! and it helped stick them all together better on top too
interesting not heard of condensed milk for a topping before, i will have to look into that, thanks

It's my mom's recipe so that makes it a family recipe more or less?
But yeah, you have to mix it with soft butter though.
