Description
Chicago and NorthWestern first #1211 was an EMD SW1. Here it is in the Proviso Yard in 1967. This series built in the late 1940's were replaced in 1971 with SW1200s. Unfortunately in 1971 I was not in NorthWestern country and I missed the changing of the guard.Check out that dinky little tank car.
Earlier this week I captured SW1200 sister #1218 in Des Moines lettered for ADM but still carrying C&NW colours. [link]

Such a dirty looking yard. And Don said it, it looks very model-ish.
Good stuff man.

Proviso spent 50 years sinking deeper and deeper into the mud. Eventually you couldn't see any ties at all!
I've noticed that many overhead shots without a horizon in view seem to look this way.
Thanks!

SW 1's are so cool! Again, this shot has an almost model RR look to it. And yeah, that is a tiny tank car.

I'm a sucker for the old C&NW stuff.
Thanks for putting that up.

Yep. 'Fraid so. I lived within a mile or two of it for most of my first 50 years. And one nine year period it was maybe only a hundred yards away - the CNW freight line that parallels US41 in Highland Park, IL.
