Wow, nice 3D models. I wonder if the models can be made for Gmod use.

They are rigged, so I suppose they would probably work, but they don't have proper texture maps. :S Also I don't release my models because they're made solely for our 3D printing project.

Hmm, interesting. Because right now, we do have a normal Stallion model which there are Gmod or SFM Dr. Whooves, so what we currently need is Big Mac, that model can be reskinned to make Fancy Pants or Shining Armor.

3D rendering. :3
...one which exists solely to be turned into a figure (tomorrow, I might add. We're going to 3D print it.)

Alright two things....
1.What 3D program are you using, though I probably know that your going to say "Blender" =x
2.What images did you use as an image plane to model the two?

Clawed-Nyasu In reply to Kayian [2012-12-14 17:55:07 +0000 UTC]
Nope, I use 3DS Max.
I was given this: [link]
But I didn't really model the images based on it, I just posed the rigs that I had already created. The mare was modeled off a side and front view of Fluttershy on Google. And the stallion was modeled off a side and front view of Doctor Whooves.

*facepalm*
Everyone I ask say either Maya or Blender and now I am seeing 3DS Max...
Well good think I took the class already

This is going to be turned into a real plastic figurine, yes. You can read more about it here! [link]

Auuugh, you gave Derpy Rainbow Dash's mane and tail! They are difefrent. D:

o_o ??? I've never even modeled Rainbow Dash's mane before. I was basing it directly off of a picture of Derpy.

Starlyk In reply to Clawed-Nyasu [2012-12-14 02:55:09 +0000 UTC]
What picture would that be?
This is a show accurate shape of her mane and tail.

Sorry about calling you out on it. D:

Clawed-Nyasu In reply to Starlyk [2012-12-14 03:13:44 +0000 UTC]
For the mane, I just went with the pose reference: [link]
But since the tail was hidden, I went with this one: [link]

Starlyk In reply to Clawed-Nyasu [2012-12-14 03:21:34 +0000 UTC]
Ah, that vector is a bad reference as it is just a Rainbow Dash recolor... It's important to note that Derpy's bangs have 3 points, and is flatter, and her tail as four and is skinnier than Dash's.
That are similar indeed, but the differences are there!

Clawed-Nyasu In reply to Starlyk [2012-12-14 04:49:16 +0000 UTC]
For the tail, the reason I thickened it was actually because it prints better that way, and also makes the center of mass for the figure closer to the middle. (Otherwise they're in danger of falling over, surprisingly.)

Starlyk In reply to Clawed-Nyasu [2012-12-14 05:02:21 +0000 UTC]
>.>
Well, perhaps it could be wider and just shaped more like the one in my vector?
I totally understand if it's not enough of a change to matter. I assume the bangs don't change much balance?

Clawed-Nyasu In reply to Starlyk [2012-12-14 05:43:37 +0000 UTC]
Well, no the bangs don't. With the bangs I was just paying more attention to the fanart that the commissioner gave me to replicate, so it makes sense that it didn't match up with the show's art. And I guess scooching the tail tufts around would take like 5 minutes? *shrug* :S

Sorry for being a bother, just trying to help your models be more accurate. But if the commissioner wants inaccuracy, yay for them. :I

If I may make a suggestion; male ponies have much more squared-off heads and faces. It would go a long way toward making this look more show-accurate if you were to try and incorporate that somehow.
Complain aside, I actually adore this. I might have to scratch up some money for something similar! D:

Clawed-Nyasu In reply to Esteempunk [2012-12-14 02:04:37 +0000 UTC]
Actually, you'd be surprised--from the front, their heads are perfectly round: [link] (Well, wait...that's fan made. Show-accurate nonetheless, but lemme find a ref from the actual show: [link] )
Making a face that was round from the front, but square from the side was one of the challenges of modeling him. It's mostly to do with the muzzle shape (which from this 3/4 angle doesn't influence the head's silhouette.)
Still, thanks for the comment.

Esteempunk In reply to Clawed-Nyasu [2012-12-14 09:44:43 +0000 UTC]
I was talking about from a side angle, such as here: [link]
Although I suppose that would be difficult to capture and still have the head rounded when viewing from the front, which is certainly the more important of the two.

Clawed-Nyasu In reply to Esteempunk [2012-12-14 18:08:36 +0000 UTC]
I did use an image similar to that one. (This one to be exact ) The only artistic license I took was to pull the bridge of the nose down a bit, as visible here: [link] Otherwise the 3/4 view looked weird as all heck.
(And didn't match with the show's 3/4 view, which I know exists but I can't seem to find an image of.)

Esteempunk In reply to Clawed-Nyasu [2012-12-14 18:28:05 +0000 UTC]
It would be easy enough to just find them in the show and screencap, though in the end I dont think it matters. I can only visualize it, but I can see where the 3/4 would look really weird if it were boxed off.

Generally we've been offering sets of two ponies at the price of $90 + shipping.
But hey, even if that's too much you'll at least have Kurtis in the works soon enough.
