The downy woodpecker, himself not much bigger than a blossom, looks for his mate while resting in the magnolia tree. He's a bit worn out from courtship, but who can blame him? His mate is very cute! They met in my garden, in Kansas City Kansas, USA. Photo taken in soft sunlight, 3/23/12.Related content

Well...... to say a "regal photo" would not put it correctly....
It really is "majestic".... this beautiful little creature is very regal her/himself... and the surounding "kingdom" is fabulous....

The kingdom will only look thus for a moment. Glad you got to see him in it while it lasted! I cut the branch where he is standing in advance, to give him a little stump to stand on. Glad he took the hint!
