Description I wanted a wide angle shot of the desert, and had not brought my good wide angle for the Canon, so I went to a camera store in LA and bought a close-out panasonic "point-and-shoot" GF3 with a 14mm lens attached, for a total of $300, figuring that the desert light would make all the difference in the world, and who would be the wiser? I mounted the little Panasonic on a tripod and head worth more than it was, and waited for the clouds to roll in. Voila! Old guys like myself and Steven (I know you'll read this, buddy) remember the fun of competing to get the most out of the old point and shoot film cameras, and it was frankly so much fun that I wanted to feel some of that again, so here is one exposure I worked in while shooting telephoto on the Canon 5D. Frankly, I prefer "Time and Space", because it is much more subtle and abstract, and is actually how I see the desert in my soul, but this composition gives the eye a nice path to the clouds, and the blue and orange are very sweet compliments (if I don't say so myself). And again, its an old man's trip down Memory Lane, when one of the objectives was to get the most out of the least, one of the ancient virtues of primitive photography.

Wow, the colours in this photo are amazing and the composition as you mention drawing the eye out to the clouds is very nice.

Yes, $300 is about what I paid for my Canon PowerShot SD600. My favorite shot from it is Fire in the west .

I prefer the other one, too, but I'll bet you a cup of coffee that this one gets more faves.

Now I tweak the older and far classier Yashica-D.

I gave my old beloved Yashica-D to my son, which was a stupid act of misguided love, and the crumb-cake won't give it back. You're probably right on the favs on this one being higher than "Time and Space", and it has already been turned down by a couple of groups, and that's the usual rub as I always am trying to figure out what to print on this end and frame for upcoming shows that I do. Wish you and I lived closer, because I am sure you would be a real asset that way; i.e., determining aesthetic point of view for the real world endeavor of selling to actual people who walk into a gallery or show and buy stuff off the wall, which isn't as easy as it sounds. You won't be surprised to hear that the best selling category in the long run is birds. Go figure. Otherwise we would talk about God, or I'd give you a bow and get you into archery, just for the zen of it. But you might not like my dog drooling all over you!

Dog drool. Cat hair. If you can put up with one you can probably learn to endure the other.

Does the aforementioned crumb-cake use it? If so, it was a good gift. They aren't too terribly expensive on Amazon and eBay.
