yoooo have some progress pics <3 hope these are informative! backgrounds get a lot easier to paint when you have some good brushes for them *u* the flat brush in medibang just has such a nice... texture? iunno, but it really makes a difference for rocks and mountains. i want to find and experiment with some more custom brushes though! i still haven't found any ones that i really like for foliage? recommendations?

This is phenomenal! I'm so impressed and as soon as I get back to my tablet I am definitely following your steps! I always muck up my drawings by sketching lining colouring and whatnot in a very straightforward fashion so it looks very blocky. Thanks so much for this!

Oooh! I REALLY like the second to last version! The last version -- I don't see where all that warm light is coming from, I guess?
It looks like there's a fire just behind them that we can't see. Or like there's a crazy forest fire! XD

My guess is judging by the sunset behind the mountain on the left, the sun is glaring directly on the snow, and snow reflects light. It's a little blown out, but I really like the contrast.

It's still very perds, no doubt. And light reflecting off the snow is defs what I figued was the intent.. buuuut -- FIRE!

What kind of brushes did you use for this piece?

clockbirds In reply to Lunoxius [2017-05-12 07:40:14 +0000 UTC]

pretty much just the flat brush and airbrush. there's also this custom cloud brush in medibang that lets you do some quick skies and mist effects too~

I always love seeing that last step when you up the saturation and add sparkles And that flat brush is so nice and textured- is it oil? (Like is it one of those transparent-ish brushes where the colours blend over each other as you paint?). I've been having trouble finding a nice flat textured-ish brush for landscapes in Clip Studio Paint - most of the nice ones seem to be available only in Photoshop..but maybe I should try Medibang sometime haha And I haven't been painting many trees so far so I don't know any good foliage brushes sadly - most of the ones I've seen are those annoying super detailed ones for individual leaves which I refuse to use ><

homfg i rely so much on the colour correction things in photoshop its not funny ;v;
i wish i didn't and that i had a good natural ability to pick out beautiful colours from the get go, but nayyyy /shot
and yeah you can increase the 'ease of mixing' and 'load colour' options for a lot of the brushes in medibang! i use the flat brush for most of my painting and just adjust the size along with those options to get the feel i want *w*
and that's surprising to hear? i seem to recall clip studio paint had a decent selection of textured brushes? i've personally never used it though, but surely there are some you can download from the webs?
(should totally give medibang a try anyway though HAHA i feel terrible, i keep endorsing that program like a mad salesperson everywhere i go)
and i feel you broooo. got no time for that individual leaf shit xDD

Waaa this is so insightful! I really like seeing your process and I love how looking at the beginning of piece and the end can have so many differences xD

Ahhh I know it's so weird how much things can change between the initial and final stages. Have you ever just had so many ideas that you want to put into one piece? It's a miracle we get art finished sometimes ;3;

mcptato In reply to clockbirds [2017-05-02 21:03:13 +0000 UTC]

LOL RIGHT? I remember when I was younger I'd have legit the hardest time trying to cut out ideas for each drawing XD Now I'm like trying to frantically come up with more and more as the days progress. But luckily the natural changes that occur during the creative process help along the way. I love nerding out about art sometimes lmao. <333

This is gorgeous, and I love that you took the time to say what you did on each step. Just knowing which parts are Add layers and which parts are Overlay makes a big difference!

Yes!! I'm so glad this is helpful! I sometimes look at the process shots of super skilled artists and somehow they just seem to be exercising magic between each step and it's like ??? How???

This exactly! I appreciate so much that you took the time to really explain the steps! (And for the record, I think you're one of those super skilled magical artists! )
