Description Still a bit of a WIP

Disclaimer - There isn't really enough info about the customs of the deer, so some parts of his story are just sorta improvised.

Name: Latros
Name meaning: Highwayman, Brigand
Age:
Adult (6 years old)
Gender: Male
Herd:  Tempus

Rank: Stag

Antler Points: 0
Accessories: Sometimes he wraps brambles around his antlers if there's a festival or big event.
Personality:

[Paranoid/inferiority complex] [Loyal/Brave] [Lonely/Philanderer] [Sensitive] [Aggressive]

[Paranoid/inferiority complex] - While Latros is incredibly large and strong, he knows that mentally he may not be the best choice for leader. As such, he's always wary of usurpers, and sometimes sees threats where they aren't. He hates to come in second to anyone, and is afraid of losing.

[Loyal/Brave] - The herd means a lot to him, and he is determined to protect it to his last breath. He'll always keep a promise that he makes, though he admittedly doesn't promise things often. When something of his is being threatened, he will not hesitate to step in and fight.

[Lonely/Philanderer] - As a result of his inferiority complex, he's terrified of being alone or of somebody leaving him. As such, he has a tendency to fight for many females and sometimes males, just desperate to ensure his dominance and make sure he'll never be without somebody.

[Sensitive] - Latros can sometimes be touchy, and a casual comment can have a much bigger effect on him than the speaker may have intended. Criticism sometimes angers him or sends him in to depression.

[Aggressive] While this was a trait that he always had, it became more dominant when he became leader and had to defend his claim. Winning fights boosts his ego, and though he's not foolish enough to start a fight with the Aevum herd, he has no qualms about settling fights with battle.

Brief History:

[Birth]

Latros's father was the leader of the herd before him, and his birth was celebrated in the custom of the Tempus herd. His mother was a doe, perhaps not the most popular or beautiful, but she was the first to bear him a son, and for that he loved her. While he wasn't particularly involved in Latros's life, he was proud to have a son.

[Fawn]

Latros was always a large deer. His mother later swore that she had almost died birthing him, and people tended to believe her. As a fawn, he was already nearly half a foot taller than the others, but nobody dared to make fun of him for it, because they knew it'd start a fight. Nonetheless, he didn't mind helping out where he could, and could often be found with the Elders, listening avidly to their stories.

[Greenhorn]

When he finally became a Greenhorn at one year old, Latros was very excited. Finally he would be able to become an adult. He resolved to himself that he would become an adult faster than anyone else in his age group. He threw himself at challenges, working his way through until his wish was granted. He graduated at half a year with two other young deer. Although not quite what he wanted, it was still a respectable achievement.

[Battler/Adult]

Everyone expected the strong young stag to become a Battler, and that he did. His considerable strength and size made it easy for him to win fights, and he rarely had qualms about fighting. While this worried some, his father was proud, and that was what mattered to Latros.

When he was two years old, half a year in to his adult life, his father had another son, with a different doe. His name was Virtus, and suddenly Latros became the second child. Everyone coddled him. He was cuter, smarter, and much more sociable. Latros was respected, but suddenly he was out of the limelight. He became bitter. Nonetheless, Virtus looked up to him, at least at first. But as he grew up, Latros was spurred to become stronger.

It was about this time that Latros noticed another fawn, one near the same age as his half brother. He was bullied for his small size, in much the same way that Latros had once been bullied for his large size. Latros had to step in. It surprised even him. For someone so devoted to strength, why should he care about weakness?

Latros's father was an aging stag, and it only took one infected wound to bring him down. He left his sons, Latros and Virtus, in line for leadership, and Latros would not let that opportunity slip by him. Maddened by grief, he fought his brother for the position of leader, and due to his size and strength, easily won.

[Stag]

Finally, Latros was safe in his dominance. All eyes would be on him, right? And it was so. For a while, he was content. But it wouldn't last. He became more and more worried. His brother was so much more noble than him. He needed somebody to tell him he was perfect, that he was better, and so he started courting others. Eventually, he had a few close does to him, and one or two stags, but still he wasn't content. He was consistently gripped by paranoia, knowing that at any moment, his life might fall apart. But he covered that by an outer, braver shell, because he knew he needed to be a leader, not a pathetic fawn.
When it was time to choose a buck, he looked before him at the herd. There were many strong stags, and a few strong does, but to him, all of them seemed a threat. Lost in thought, he studied the deer before him, before his eyes fell on a light stag the color of the sun. He was the fawn he had helped when he was younger, and he had grown in to a strong young buck. And unlike the other deer, he gazed at Latros with something more like devotion than respect.
And so it was that Solaris was his right-hand man.

Roleplay Example: The ferns parted as the pale apprentice slid through the undergrowth. This part of the territory was particularly forested, which made it more difficult to catch prey. However, the squirrel he'd been chasing had seen fit to escape to this grassy area. The grass tickled his nose, laced with the tantalizing scent of a young squirrel.

The grass was sparser up ahead, and the squirrel was on the ground, a pine nut clamped in it's jaws. It was trying to fit the nut in to it's cheek, and evidently having trouble. As it scratched at it, Ashenpaw shifted his legs, preparing to leap. Just as he did, it fit the nut, and looked up to see him moments away.

Ashenpaw straightened up, the creature clenched in his jaws. It was fat, and would do well feeding the elders. And hopefully his mentor would be proud of him.

What I love about this group is that you can have a lot more variety in designs than you might have IRL. Why don't you look up some animals that you think have cool coat markings? Then you can modify it to fit the deer and make it look more natural.

Oh, sweet! I've been trying to find somewhere that said what was allowed and what wasn't xDD Thank you! I'll definitely do that c:

Clockhound In reply to wandernovi [2014-04-15 00:54:45 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure that most things are allowed, as long as they aren't too unnatural. Probably watch out for, like, zebra stripes, but most things should be okay. Spots are always a safe bet.

It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, but I still have to practice a bit more. My suggestion is a ton of photo referencing.
