Description
Coins and currency from 26 different video games, with my own artistic variations on certain items. How many can you name?Click here for the complete answer list.
A couple of hints:
1) You had to "see" the currency in game. If cash magically appears in your inventory after a fight, I can't paint it (So, no gil).
2) It had to be visually different than US currency.
A special note to my regular watchers: I said that I would crank out at least one painting a month...but Video Games Live came to Tucson in March. I needed to use my meager costume skills (and painting time) to create a costume for it: Manny Calavera from Grim Fandango .

This looks like a pastel piece. Cool to know that's what paint on velvet looks like.

As many of the shapes had to be exact, this was done in acrylic paints...giving it a pastel-ish look. Oils show up a lot better on velvet (but are not as good for holding exact shapes).

The Nuka Cola logo was a lot of fun to paint that small.

Ah, the Snake coin from Silent Hill 2. I remember solving the extra hard version of that puzzle. And was it hard!

Ya know, I was worried that no one recognized the Snake Coin yet. Good to hear I was not the only one who had that coin imprinted in my brain from trying to figure out the coin puzzle. I crawled to a walkthrough to get the solution on hard mode.

Ah! I can recognize the money from Conker, Zelda (rupees) Mario coins... Is that a ring from Sonic the Hedgehog? There's more that look familiar but I can't place it.

Well the Sonic ring and Mario coins are probably the most recognizable of game currencies.
And if your doing food next I would probably put the Streets Of Rage food on there Or Final Fight most Beat 'um up games have the same sort of health system.

The dollar with eyeballs is Conker's Bad Fur day, I see a rupee, a few Mario coins, a Sonic ring, a Mystical Ninja japanese coin thing (like on a Meowth's head) a cap? Like Fallout, maybe? I see Adam from BioShock...Castlevania heart? A banana coin from Donkey Kong?

I recognize Mario, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts (maybe), Monkey Island, Donkey Kong ... there are a few others that seem all too familiar but I can't quite place them. Nice work.

You are the first person who got the Monkey Island Coin right away. Congrats! Yeah, That is Kingdom Hearts Munny (hard to render on velvet). I spend more hours researching this work than actually painting it. Ah well...it was fun.
I was thinking of doing a similar compilation using items that were worthless in their respective games. Any ideas?
