Description
The sky had opened up before me and the rush of adrenaline filled my bodyas I tumbled down.
Down.
Fall.
I don’t remember much.
I sliced through the wind and the air left chilling abrasions on my body.
Down.
Where was I? I couldn’t see much, other than the sky,
the ominous gray and golden-touched clouds staring back at me.
I panicked.
Fall.
I was falling.
There wasn’t much that was going to stop me from coming down,
and for no particular reason
I was greatly disturbed by this.
I opened my eyes,
my heart raced,
and I flung myself over so now I looked down.
Down.
Fall.
I saw trees, the vast countryside, and the ground.
I felt like the sky and the earth disliked me;
the sky didn’t want me to fly up,
and the earth didn’t want to me to come down.
Fall.
The trees came fast.
I hit the edge of a branch, knocking me back,
only to fumble down through the entanglement of branches
with the leaves reaching out for my fall.
I tried to reach out for them.
Everything hurt.
I ricocheted off of every branch,
battering and bruising me.
I knocked my head hard against a wide branch
before I thumped onto the ground.
There was so much pain,
it clouded my vision,
and tears boiled in my eyes
and hardened in my throat.
I felt paralyzed in pain as I gasped for air.
I fell and it hurt.
It hurt so badly.
My heart ached
from a mental pain I did not understand.
The wind had whipped me from my fall
in a cold pain
and everything hurt ten times worse.
I squinted away the tears which fell on my face,
warm, compared to my bare skin.
My head ached.
I did not want to die.
I was scared,
my heart rate paced
as I gasped for the air that had struck through my lungs.
But when I tried to move,
blackness slapped my head still
like a stone wall…
