Phantom was originally going to just be a Hematite Quartz, but let's just say something happened during her creation that led to some... side-effects.

Phantom served on the same team as Onyx , an elite team of quartzes underneath Desert Sage Jasper .

Hey look, another red gem!

This is the first one I've done that's been left in a naturally faceted state. It was particularly challenging, and I'm definitely not satisfied with the end result (I had too much fun with dithering), but that may just be because I haven't touched this project in a few weeks. ^^' My excuse for being so inactive on here? Midterms. They're fun. Especially when you have seven courses instead of the recommended five. c;

Quartz may be super common, but there's such a vast variety of this type of mineral and so many rarer kinds that it really does make it so interesting despite that. This gem also scores somewhat high on the refractory index, another factor that made it... difficult to draw. Yay.

Phantom quartz itself occurs when clear quartz forms over top of a pre-existing mineral, in this case being a red form of quartz, the colour likely due to hematite inclusions in the inner quartz crystal.
