Description

Dandelion and the Pippet

It had been a slow day for Dandelion. With Emery gone she was on her own again, while he was staying here in the village she had been following him around like a fed kitten. She was eager to learn more about magic and anything else he had to say about Riddlelock Academy. But he had left the day before yesterday and she boredly thumbed through her daily chores. Check the storage, sweep the floors, and check the crops. She had to do some washing up but she’d wait until later in the day when the sun hovered overhead and the day grew hotter. Then she could really enjoy it.

Dandelion was a little bit lost ever since Miles left last month. Her other friends and family did their best to cheer her up, Graham the local baker even made her a batch of his farm-famous cookies. No one couldn’t smile after a bite into those doughy goodies. But no matter how many cookies she ate it didnt’ fill the ache in her chest. She just couldn’t seem to stop sighing.

“IT WENT THIS WAY!” someone shouted down the path.

Dandelion perked her ears.“Wh-what’s going on?” she asked a bright yellow pouflon adorning in a wreath of flowers who sprinted past her with a big red butterfly net in her mouth.

“Khmm om!!” the other pouflon threw her head in the direction she was heading to summon Dandelion with her. Dandelion watched in confusion and started to walk, then a trot, then a full run just to keep up! She was admittedly curious as to what was happening.

They came to a white and deep rich pink pouf who was huffing looking around in a wild fashion, “I swear I just saw one!” She exclaimed, her lips and brows curling to a pout over losing whatever it was.

“You lost something? What’s happening?” Dandelion repeated to the pink pouflion named Felicia. “Do you need help?” She asked tilting her head not sure what she was even looking for.

“Amaryllis accidentally let some little critters called Pippets get loose. Everyone in the village is helping look for them, trust me. They’re very strange looking, you’ll know it when you see it.” Nodded Felicia as she turned away and started to look through the tall grass and bushes. The yellow pouflon Dandelion wasn’t introduced too was still charging about waving that net in empty air.

“I’ll start over here, I guess.” she said still unsure of what she was looking for. Walking down the path she saw a roped up garden of herbs, that looked like a good spot for ‘critters’ to hide. Walking carefully into the empty spots she knelt down to see something moving amongst the leaves. “Oh…?” she blinked and knelt further on the ground.

Something very red poked out from under a large leaf, the poor thing was shaking as it watched her. “Ohh, you must be a pippet. I’ve never seen anything like you before.” She said in a small calm voice, doing her best not to spook it. She couldn’t call out to the others without yelling, it seems like she’s on her own here. Gulping a little Dandelion edged a little closer but it only maade the round stubby creature back away. “Okay, okay. I’ll stay right here. See?” She laid down gently on top of the plans and grass. “You know, I bet if you come out with me, no one needs to net you. You could even ride on my back to see Amaryllis. Have you ever ridden a pouflon before?” She smiled, the little red creature had stopped shaking as she talked. It seemed to relax.

“Okay, I’m going to reach out to you now, you can see me then if you want, don’t worry. I won’t hurt you.” She cooed scooting a hooven foot closer, not all the way but close enough where the pippet only need a step or too to inspect her. Surprisingly it did! Dandelion couldn’t help but smile bigger, “See? I’m not bad at all. I’ll stay on the ground here, do you want up on my back?” she asked as the pippet nudged her foot with it’s cheek. It watched her closely as it’s face rested on her foot. It made an odd sort of noise, it almost sounded like a bubbling purr? It made it’s way closer to Dandelion and began to do little hops trying to reach up onto her back. With slow movements she reached back and gave them a little push up until she felt the whole weight plop onto the middle of her back. “Okay now, please hold on I’m going to get up now.” She said feeling the tug of her fur she tried her best to rise up evenly as to not sway the pippet about. Being extra careful to turn and walk towards the others she smiled at they looked shocked to see the creature on her back.

“How?! I’ve been chasing them all morning!” Shouted the pink pouflon making the pippet tense up.

“Shh, it’s okay. Well gosh, I’m not sure. I just saw it sitting in the garden over there and waited for them to come to me. We just bring them back to Amaryllis now, right?” Dandelion asked already starting to walk in the direction of the potion maker's hut.

“Uhh, y..yeah, right ok. Yep just bring them back to Amaryllis.” Called out Felicia. The other golden pouflon looked a little sad she missed out on netting the pippet they had been chasing. But it doesn’t look like they were giving up the chase. There were still more pippets to be found!
