Description
Recently, I've completed a seven page submission of "Miss Doomsday" that I'm sending to various publishers. Here's the third page of that submission, a sample, if you will.I'm nervous as all get out because I haven't submitted anything in years.
Gulp. Wish me luck.

Thanks! I did have some apprehension about redoing this page, because I liked the mood and imagery. I appreciate the comment.

Nah, I just think the worst, lol! Cant wait to see more. I like how youve started this out, once you have an opening page like that you just HAVE to know the rest of the story.

This is excellent work. The lines are tight, yet leave plenty of room for shading with colors. You've also obviously got a very good grasp on perspective (demonstrated by how often and cleanly you shift it) and panel layout. And, of course, tantalizing storytelling: why is her "public persona" so incredibly different from her private self, and how many *other* "public personae" (sp?) does she have? I see at least two other wigs on those wall-mounted faces...
Best of luck navigating the treacherous waters of comic-book publishing!

I really like your style. It can be call traditional, but still, you give it something more, something, that makes me feel scared and... I really want to read more of this.

Thanks! I was going for a creepy feel to this page. I've always envisioned my comic as a sort of Vertigo-like comic, except with more humor.

I'm glad to hear that (and thanks). I was really going for that real world look, like somebody who was pretty but not perfect looking. I also wanted to draw her with distinctive features, as I (and many artists) have a tendency to draw everybody looking the same.

Zac, I truly hope you do great with your submissions. Now since you want to jump to show your work to publishers, I'd like to tell some real criticism, don't take it wrong please and most importantly: don't feel down!
The story telling works very well, your reader will understand exactly what's happening, I liked the way you change angles, it doesn't botter at all. So in graphic narrative you're excellent. The cat's design and expressions are great.
However some details look like they were done in a rush, for example:
-I know you can ink better than here, specially in the shadings.
-I'd suggest to pay more attention in furniture and space, like the structure of that chair she's sitting or the way the water falls in the second panel.
-The way you drawed the panels is interesting, since I haven't seen the rest of the pages I can't tell much about it, however one supposes that when the artist do these kind of shapes it's for a reason and not just aesthetics.

Thanks, Jade, for the critique. You're correct that there's little I can do to change it right now, as I'm currently in the process of submitting the pages to publishers (there are seven of them, altogether).
I purposely laid off doing too much shading on this page. That's because there are so many panels on the page that each one had to be relatively small. If I put on too much shading, the page would get muddled, busy, or potentially too confusing (at least in my opinion). I wanted the images to be simple so the reader could get what's going on within a heartbeat.
Your other points I'll consider in the future.

No problem, I can try to help if I can, even if I'm not a pro yet and, I don't know the editorial line of the publishers you're searching to so I may be doing a mistake in my advices (that's important too).
In any case, wish you best luck and even get reviews from the editors!!
You have to tell us how it went.
