Howdy. Β I used this as the YT cover art for my song, "Praise the Sun." Β I credited you fully, and provided a link. Β Normally I ask artists first, but I just completely derped on this one. Β I'm really sorry. Β I hope you don't mind. Β I have the utmost respect for your work. Β I found this pic inspiring.

Here's the song:

Oh, yes, and I forgot to say in my last comment--Someone would have to put Celestia in her place, which would likely tone the heat down. At least in my opinion, that would work in some way. Anyway, well done

For some odd reason, I can see this happening--rather than just the light of day, a giant burning mass that will burn all of Equestria. What would cause Celestia to snap? What if--just what if--Celestia DOES finally snap like Luna? Plus, look at the fandom! Even though Celestia was always depicted as the "perfect pony" and "perfect" ruler, even somepony like her has to have a "dark side" to make her believable. That's the thing about Luna--Luna has flaws, but that's what makes Luna relatable! Anyway, I like what you did here and it's frickin' awesome!

I'm a bit hesitant to like this. I'm not one to take a warm, but distant gaze before a cold, but loving shoulder. I can find much more happiness in the latter. But perspective likes to twist things around relentlessly, and not without reason. Because how can I appreciate that which I find beautiful if there wasn't anything to make it shine? Celestia's primordial control over the Sun throws up a sharp relief over all beneath it, making them stand out only more. So thank you for that.

Don't get too close, Princess, or you'll get a bad case of sunburn!

Very cool (no pun intended) picture; it really drives home just how much of an effort raising the sun's actually got to be, and, by extension, just how powerful Celestia really is.

Great texture on the sun, too!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Xinef5 In reply to BrutalityInc [2014-03-05 13:01:48 +0000 UTC]

It makes more sense if you assume that there are different laws of physics in Equestria than the ones in Earth's universe. And apparently Pinkie, Discord and other characters occasionally can change/disregard the laws of physics. I personally like the explanation in "Pinkie Pie meets the Universe" fanfic.

In any case, we have to take into consideration that in the Sonic Rainboom episode, Rarity's wings burned because she got too close to the sun. How can we explain THAT?

Is Sun actually much closer to the planet's surface, like a few kilometres above? Maybe it's angular diameter to distance ratio has some unusual properties? Or maybe the energy received from the sun does not decrease with distance squared, but with some other function of distance?

Also, did the ancient Greeks actually visit Equestria, and that's where the story of Icarus took place, or was it the other way around? Maybe the Greeks stole the "artificial sun" technology from Equestria? And Icarus was one of the victims of the experiments with the imported Sun?

It's just... empiricism is rooted rather well in my psyche. It's always in my habit to try and make sense of any fictional setting. I HATE it when things cannot even be logically explained. Who knows how long I have been trying to explain the Sass Squash, or how magic works in Equestria, for one thing...Β
