Description Just a wolf-maid and her pup, before the child-bed fever takes her. I like to think that Jon experienced a mother's love however brief it may have been. This is all just theory and speculation, but a possibility I can't ignore or help but adore.

Materials: Sakura Pigma Sensei, Reeves Watercolour, Prismacolour Pencils, Strathmore 400 series paper.
Time: 6 hours

GRRM and his incredible series is, obviously, my muse. Also, I want to send a special thanks to ~joelyjo and her library of sweet fanfiction that fills the void I wait so patiently for GRRM to fill. Her library on Archive of Our Own can be found at [link] .

What name do you think Rhaegar had in mind? Given the theme with prophecy, I think he wanted to name him Viserys as the male equivalent of Visenya, since his other kids are Aegon and Rhaenys

Well, now we know that, at least on the show, his name is Aegon. Given Rhaegar's first son by Elia is also Aegon, I'm not a huge fan. I hope they chose a different name in the books, but I'm sure has GRRM has his reasons, whatever he decides.

This is beautiful He has Lyanna's hair, Rhaegar's eyes and have both of his parents warrior spirit.

While I understand Cat was pissed when Ned told her he was with another woman and Jon was his "bastard" but she shouldn't be mad at Jon, while Ned said was a lie, Jon didn't ask to be born and Cat should be holding Ned accountable for that.

And I like to think Rhaegar and Lyanna watched over Jon and were there when he fights, when he laughs, when he cries and when he had that deadly illness, while Cat made the charm to cure him I think Lyanna was there saying "Come on Jon, you have to wake up," with Rhaegar saying, "Don't you dare die! fight dammitΒ

The artwork is beautiful, excellently shaded, love the style... And I'm going all to pieces over baby Jon and Lyanna.
The big question is, when GRRM finally reveals this, how are characters going to act? For Jon it'll be like a monumental sucker punch, since it's a fundamental change in his identity.

Thanks for this it's beautiful. Also my favorite GoT conspiracy theory. Make sense so how can we trust it knowing how G.R.R.M is? So many clues in the text and even the series. Ned telling him make no mistake you are a Stark when Jon is heading for the Wall. Ned being evasive with King Robert on the way back to Kings Landing. So many clues but I don't trust George ha!

I'm so glad you like it! And I agree, only Ser Martin knows for certain. Though I doubt he would have added THAT many clues just to mess with us. One or two maybe, but to have that many sprinkled through 6 books is a bit much.

As always, this came out beautifully. The colouring is amazing. They really leap out from the cloak in my opinion and I do feel you did an amazing job on both the skin and hair colours.

And I also know exactly what this scene is referring to But I have to say, because of her attitude towards Jon I can't help but dislike Catelyn to some degree. I understand completely where she is coming from but at the same time I feel like her heart is closed and unable to show compassion for people regardless of origin. And if in fact Jon wasn't necessary who Ned claim he was, her hatred is unjustified... Admittedly Jon is one of my three favourite characters so I guess I would side with his supporters over his enemies.

CMBaggs In reply to pawcanada [2013-05-28 19:32:43 +0000 UTC]

LOL, "as always..." you say. Ha ha. You're too good to me.

God, I know! I ran into this annoying fan girl recently (my definition of "fan girl" being anyone of the female persuasion who rabidly and viciously attacks anyone who doesn't agree with her own personal selection) who referred to anyone who didn't LOVE Cat as stupid. Stupid? I agree with you! Blame the sins on the father and not the son... even though I fully think that poor Ned is innocent of all sin in this case.

I don't dislike Cat as a character. I can empathize with her situation. But compared to what Lyanna would have had to deal with Robert, seeing Cat get all angsty over ONE SINGLE indiscretion seems a little ridiculous. I think it's damn sad that her kids (minus Sansa - who starts out the series as shallow to the point of embarrassment) were able to see passed rank and name and love Jon Snow for who he was, while she carries her hatred to her death.

I am so glad that GRRM added some remorse to her character in the HBO series. I adored that touch.

And, personally, I like to think that Jon's quiet, honorable, dutiful nature is actually from his REAL father, who was described as "Able. That above all. Determined, deliberate, dutiful, single-minded..." - Barristan Selmy.

And what is Jon, if not all that? People who hate the character and spurn him as being "emo" make me laugh. Is emo not just the new in vogue word for melancholic? Everyone thinks that Jon acts like Ned. No. Jon got his looks from his mother. His personality was from his father. 100%. I think GRRM is letting us meet Rhaegar through Jon. Ned, the amazing uncle, tempered it all into a flawless steel. Ned made him a man.

pawcanada In reply to CMBaggs [2013-06-02 19:21:34 +0000 UTC]

Wow. I can see how Cat can appeal to fans - a friend of mine likes the character due to her devotion towards her children - but that goes a step too far in m eyes. It reminds me of the kind of fans I used to see in the forums I used to hang in. Sufficed to say I am glad those days are behind me.

Like you said, blame the sins on the father and not the child and like yourself, I do feel he did no wrong anyway. I agree the scene in the HBO series certainly redeemed her more in my eyes. And I agree with you about Sansa. It isn't until book four that I found her tolerable. I dreaded re-experiencing the scene where Arya's wolf attacked Joffery and Sansa's decision to side with her husband-to-be rather than tell the truth.

Barristan Selmy is also a favourite of mine, especially when he sides with Dany. There's something about her "rag-tag team of captains" that I always enjoyed reading in book 3 and 5 although I am annoyed that Strong Belwas has yet to appear. The scene when those two turned up at the end of book two and Belwas' fight in 3 (particularly the "I allow my foes to cut me once" attitude) were some of my favourites.

I do find the wording used around Jon interesting during my re-reading. I always feel the word "Uncle" jumps out even more when ever Benjey is seen/referenced. He would always be Jon's uncle regardless of which Stark he is the child of. And while I can't remember the quote in question I do agree it's a good way to describe Jon. I've yet to see someone call him emo, but I do know a guy at work who called him "wet" after season 2 finished. Hmm, yeah he may seem "wet" back then but just you wait . And that is actually something I hadn't thought of but it is a good way to develop him by having the son mimic the father in terms of personality.

CMBaggs In reply to pawcanada [2013-06-04 16:15:22 +0000 UTC]

Ugh, I hate hate HATE that scene. That right there should have convinced Ned to turn that train around!

Yeah, I think they may have eliminated Belwas simply to cut back on the fat character roster and simplify things for fans. I liked him too, but I can also understand why they would do it.

The quote in question was said by Barristan to Dany when she wanted to hear more about Rhaegar. I can't remember which book. I gobbled them up and so they all sort of bled together in my mind, though the events are very vivid. I'm rereading GOT right now.

Exactly. Poor, headstrong Ned.

And I hadn't thought of it like that. It does make sense though. Hey ho; more incentive to re-read the books .

Ha ha, great minds think alike I see . I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled for more detail like that this time around. As I said before, I do feel I rushed them so I could lend the books to a friend which was fine for most of it but some of the more finer detail like that skipped past me.

CMBaggs In reply to pawcanada [2013-06-05 13:28:03 +0000 UTC]

LOL... yes... he is subtle. I guess that's the #1 argument that the doubters have though. My husband, for example always tells me that I see this 'evidence' because I WANT to see it. Maybe he's right. Maybe George is the greatest Troll there ever was and a Master in the Art of the Red Herring, I dunno. All I know for certain is that (no matter the outcome) I love his writing, I love his characters, and I love this series.

pawcanada In reply to CMBaggs [2013-06-06 11:08:35 +0000 UTC]

I can see what your husband means and agree to a degree. It reminded me of a manga couple I used to ship about ten years back - any interaction between the two, whether it was something minor or major I saw as evidence of their pairing. However the author stated there wouldn't be any couples between the main characters so it was probably just him showing how everyone has strong bond.

However I can't say for certain if I think the same applies. Maybe he is a Master in the Art of the Red Herring or he is indeed dropping hints at a major plot twist. We just have to keep reading to find out

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for fanart of any kind (probably because I can't draw for diddly squat!) and even if this wasn't what it is, I would still be saving a copy of it to my hard drive Fanart folder because it is fabulous.

Now, I am no art critic, but I love the colours and the detail in the cloak and her hair. I always think skin tone is such a difficult thing to get right and you've totally nailed that too. You should be VERY proud of this! <3

I can't even begin to say how THRILLED I am with the saturation of the cloak. It took patience and several coats, but voila! I just love working with the Targaryen emblem and colours. I love how complex and bold it is.

And her hair! I started out with two shades of brown and was starting to panic. Lyanna Stark doesn't have light brown hair! She's not a Tyrell! So I went over it with black and got this wonderful depth.

I could have shaded the face better. The thing with watercolour is that you really need to surrender to the mistakes, though. Just need to practice more.

Thank you! When it's a labour of love the work flows so easily. When my heart's not in it then it takes much longer.

The cloak that they're snuggled in is my favorite detail. In the books, when a man takes a wife before the Seven, he replaces her family cloak with his own during the ceremony. If the design on the "blanket" doesn't give away my opinion than I hope the colours do.

The oainting is beautiful! I love the strands of hair and the deep colour wou got out of the fabric, it's really nice to look at! I also think the fact that the skin has no sharp outline softens it all and does draw the attention to mother and baby framed in the darker hair and fabric

I notice you have something sketched in the side...like a rose, were you planning on adding a background?

CMBaggs In reply to Sleyf [2013-05-26 19:37:29 +0000 UTC]

Do you ever start something and then, while working... You just KNOW that you should just stop? That's what happened. I took a step back, saw how the attention focused on the faces and thought, no, I'm done. No background.

Although, I probably should have cleaned up the side there.

Thank you so much, as always for the comments and feedback. It means the world to me.
