What makes it sad is that magnus tried to warn the emperor about what is going to happen to horus, but due to the emperor being ignorant, dismisses the thought of horus betraying them and sends the space wolves to attack prospero. If the emperor, would believe in what magnus said then maybe the thousand sons could have still remained loyal to the emperor. This picture manages to capture the tragic events of the legion.

Lol, they actually attracted me a lot with their back story and what happened, that and their psychic powers flowing through a greater amount of them instead of 1 psyker per company instead. It just works ;.; they never get love though :< Pre heresy or Post :/
And darker? Yeah, probably right, a lot of things are off though, this is the 3rd finished picture I've used trying a new digital coloring style I've been playing around with. Still not used to it.

Never really read into the Thousand Sons much...the only Chaos Legion I know anything about beyond name and role is the Death Guard, but mostly just because anything involving Nurgle always intrigued me (after all, why would you worship something that, er, gets all up in your house with disease?).

Though with the way the thousand sons became to chaos, strange things happened.
The emperor originally said for Magnus, the Thousand Sons Primarch to never use sorcery again, magnus disobeyed and used it in secrecy thinking it would help for the better of humanity. Up until the end Magnus was still loyal. And when he heard the coming treacheries of Horus, he used the quickest way he could warn his father emperor with sorcery since its nearly instant communication that way while using psychic powers would work way much slower. He did warn of horus, but instead of take heed of it, the emperor called the space wolves to go to Prospero, it was originally thought that Horus also influenced Logan Grimnar and the space wolves instead of going to bring magnus alive and his legion to the emperor for questioning to instead destroy them, the Thousand sons obviously lost, and moved to the planet of the witches / sorcerers. They faced the mutation, ahriman casted the rubric to stop it, because even after being cast aside, ahriman and the majority of the thousand sons were still loyal to the emperor. Magnus himself turning into a giant black Deamon Prince. After learning of what ahriman did, he and his men that assisted in him casting the rubric were outcasted to never return on a never ending quest of enlightenment. Ahriman, who now wishes to gain access to the black library in the webways of the eldar to do two things. 1. find a spell to return all his men from ashes to flesh again, and 2. gain untold powers to get rid of the corrupt magnus and take charge, since Ahriman in fact despite being part of chaos, HATES chaos and still believes in the possibility of being with the emperor once again one day possibly.
And thats how I heard it all from a small section of reading I've done.

Acctually, He is now against The Emperor since he works with Tzeentch now, Magnus the Red Betrayed when the Emperor had forbidden him to use psyker powers, but Magnus did it anyways in Secret, so when Magnus used his powers to warn the Emperor about the Horus Heresy, he went mad and sent Leman russ(if I remember correctly) to get Magnus to Terra for using Psyker powers, But Horus told Leman that Magnus must be killed.

Is you want someone who is still loyal, then Fulgrim should Interest you, It is said he is possessed by a daemon.
Or Horus, which was loyal during the whole heresy, but he had been tricked by the Chaos gods.
