“Can we get you anything else Jennifer?” asked the receptionist.

“No, but thank you for this ice pack. That is super helpful!” replied Jennifer. She sat at her desk and propped up her ankle, now in a blue fiber walking cast after the pogo incident from a few days back. The company had been really nice about it, driving her straight to the hospital and making sure that she got right in to see someone. It wasn’t that bad really, just a few sprains, some cuts and bruises and a small fracture in her ankle. Still hurt like crazy though, especially when she walked on it, although she was told that she was allowed to. But for now, she was looking forward to a bit of time at her desk using the R.I.C.E. model for her tender limbs. She leaned forward and gingerly applied the ice pack to the top of her cast. Might hold better with an ACE bandage or something, she thought, my knee is starting to feel better, maybe I could use that one! On her way down from the pogo stick her knee had twisted violently over while her ankle gave in, probably a good thing as it had taken some stress off – without that minor injury her left ankle would probably have been much worse!!

Before she could strap down the ice pack, her phone started to ring. Jennifer answered, it was Kimberly.

“Hey kid, hate to even ask this but we’re in a real bind here. We’ve got a grand opening of a new bar downtown, and they have a prototype mechanical bull they need us to test out beforehand. The opening is tomorrow, so they really need a tester out there right away”

Jennifer gasped, looking at her casted ankle. Suddenly it felt like it was the most fragile thing on earth, almost as if looking at it was causing the crack in the bone to widen. All she wanted was for her cast to hold it securely in place and for nothing to so much as breathe on it!

“You still there?” Jennifer asked on the other line, “look, I know you have a busted ankle right now, but think of it this way – you don’t really need that ankle for this assignment, right? Just hold the bull with your knees or something!”.

You’re forgetting that my knee is sprained, Jennifer thought, so is my hand AND my wrist! In fact, right now three out of four limbs had been injured needing treatment of some kind. Her right wrist was in a brace, her left hand was all bandaged up and so was her knee.. granted none of those were causing her much more grief than the occasional shot of pain from moving something the wrong way. Could she do this..? She sure didn’t want to let the company down after all…
