CRASH!! THUNK! “Owww….” Jennifer moaned, trying to come to her senses after crashing side first into a row of tables. For a new bar, they seemed rather dingy, but she tried not to think about that as she struggled to get off the floor. She also tried not to think about the fact that the bull she had been testing out was now over twenty feet away from her landing site.

“OW!” She said again after trying to lift herself with her left arm. That clearly wasn’t going to happen, pain from her wrist and about three fresh points up her arm screamed in protest. She moaned, and leaned back against the wall cradling her tender limb.

“Holy crap kid, that was awesome!” Kimberly exclaimed as she hobbled over to the crash site, “that was one hell of a bail! Wish we’d got it on camera! Oh shit, almost forgot, are you ok?”

“My arm,” Jennifer tried to gingerly lift it to show Kimberly the damage, “SSCH! Ow, my arm really hurts, I think it’s broken!” She slowly lowered it back into the cradle in her lap, wincing as she did. “Also,” she added, “I think there’s something wrong with my leg!”

“That makes sense,” Kimberly agreed, “you do have a cast on it after all! Now let’s get you up and have a look at you.”

One very awkward moment later (lifting not being Kimberly’ current strong suit), Jennifer was off the floor and hopping to one of the nearby bar stools, whimpering and moaning at every bounce that jarred her arm on the way over. Once seated, Kimberly improvised an elevation point using one of Jennifer’s crutches.

“Oh! Oh! Careful careful careful!!! My leg, oh god my leg!!!” Jennifer cried when Kimberly grabbed it to raise up on to the crutch. The bandages and cast had left her with a false sense of security that was now shattered with the leg being forcefully moved, much like the bones in it probably were. But aside from the jarring that Jennifer’s leg received, and even with a very restrictive cast Kimberly proved to be more than adept at quickly stabilizing the known injuries in prep for the medical team.

I really wish they paid hazard pay, Jennifer thought sullenly, in fact, I wish this was a paid internship of any kind!! This wasn’t the kind of experience I signed up for.. She winced at the thought of the several painful weeks to come. She was pretty sure her leg was broken, it had the same hot throbbing that was radiating from her arm now. This wasn’t going to be fun.
