Description

This is part of my "Gizoid Imitator" series, where I take a random character, and draw them as a Gizoid, who are powerful robots from Sonic Battle and Sonic Chronicles, that are able to copy the abilities of those they fight, to create unique Gizoid designs. It's as if these mimic masters decided to fully embody those that they copied. I based the framework design on my current Emerl and Gemerl Redesigns, which are more complicated than their original designs in Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3, respectively.
I do not intend to take requests, though don't let that stop you from dropping ideas. If I like the idea, I might take it, and add them to my list to work on later.

Man, this was the most complex character I made as a Gizoid Imitator. I just somewhat recently decided to draw Shulk as a Gizoid, as a sort of late celebration to the release of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Addition. I'm not really an avid player of RPGs, but even if I haven't beaten it, I can not deny that Xenoblade is an amazing game. And I really wish I could've upgraded to the Definitive Addition when it came out, especially since it came out on May 29th this year, two days AFTER my birthday.

Anyways, coming to Shulk's design, I tried to design his body and limbs based on his default clothing, but the design was so complex, trying to figure out how it would work wasn't very simple. And I had to omit some more specific details, because I didn't want to make this super complicated.

For his head, I mixed another detail from his jacket (near the "ears"), and after seeing a tuft of hair on Shulk's forehead, I tried to recreate it on the Gizoid horn as a lowered metal plate covering the corners his eyes. As for his eyes, to get the best colors, I based them on the color Shulk's eyes glow when he has a vision, since it looked better then his normal eye color, which is sort of a gray.
Interestingly enough, Gizoids have a third eye that opens when they activate their ultimate powers, and I realized third eyes are often associated with visions of the future. So, this Gizoid's third eye could open to see future visions. I didn't have it open, since I didn't like how it look for this specific Imitator, and I thought it was unnecessary, but it is a possibility.

And now for his sword, the Monado. This is simply the COOLEST freaking sword ever. Not only is it's design awesome, but it's got so many interesting abilities, including Shulk's vision's of the future. Now, I didn't fully detail the Monado for this piece, but I did add one of the kanji symbols used to determine which ability is currently active. The one I used was for Monado Buster, which is the first and one of the strongest attack abilities it has. I also extended the handle to make it look better.

Because of how I wanted to position the Monado in the pose, and just how long the sword actually is, I decided to set Shulk to the right side and set the length of background to the full drawing.

As an interesting, mostly unrelated fact, several years ago in high school (before I started making vector art here on Devi), for Halloween once I decided to go out as Shulk for my costumes, and even hand made a costume and Monado. Were they good quality... no. Not even close. But I spent a lot of time making it. I just thought it be interesting to say. And no, I still don't the costume.

The Monado itself, I made using cardboard, strips of thin wood I cut from fan blades (as in a ceiling fan's blades) to help keep it straight, and duct tape, which was painted over. It even had a kanji symbol on the open circle, painted on cut-out, clear paper protector sleeves. It took me, I think, a month to make.
