Here's a timeline showing the development of my starters from 2004 to present day. It also shows my developing art style.

tl;dr follows,

2004 - The birth of Cyare and it’s three starters - a grass rodent*, fire kangaroo and water penguin. I was also terrible with the art.

2005 - No more neon! Due to lack of ideas, the kangaroo was scrapped in favour of a fire goat. The rodent is given a complete revamp, and the penguin is made to look more like a chick.

2006 - The goat was given a better concept and became Caprikid [link] so I replaced it with a red panda I had made earlier called Wahva. The rodent is finally named Scurley, and the penguin, Pengle. They are also revamped a little with Scurley given new eyes and cheek marks to match the others.

2007 - I had no good ideas for Wahva’s final stage so it became a regular Fanmon with one evo, and with the help of fuzzball288, in comes Lamber the sheep! Scurley gets it’s old eyes back and turns out to be the only one remaining with cheeks. Pengle remained, even with Piplup hitting the scene, but in 2009 it was replaced by Takako (a Takahe) due to it’s final stage not being popular enough. Pengle becomes a regular Fanmon with both it’s evolutions.

2009 - Takako was short lived as a starter because it was also unpopular, so I made it a regular Fanmon with one evo. I brought back a scrapped water elephant I had made two years earlier called Elephin to replace it. Scurley and Lamber get slight redesigns and in 2010, I’m finally happy with my art style. Hopefully this line-up will remain forever!

*The grass rodent that is now Scurley was actually thought of around 1999/2000 but I didn't start my new region till 2004.
