Description
This one was one of those where I had a hunch on how to execute the piece but wasn't entirely sure if it would work at all. The basic premise was to do a rough, somewhat defined rendering and silhouette of the armor I wanted as a base then masking it off and duplicating it, setting the new layer to soft light and then working in a rougher render in that to start defining the shapes and contours while also starting in on adding in the idea of corrosion taking place. Duplicating the layer again but now using a messy, rough brush at different tones helped give more of a feel of the armor now breaking down further.

The colors are built up from an olive and then a purple to contrast and mute the saturation. Using the same rough brush I duplicated in the masked off layers but in each I painted a different color, each one building upon the previous. Over it all I went in with a normal layer and a smaller brush, painting in the pocks and cracks and general corrosion of the armor.

Thought it'd be interesting to have some glowing eye in the shadow of the broken open helm, like whatever warrior was left in there still has some fight in it.
