When I think of the idea of preservation over great periods of time I think back to the beginning of Aliens when the salvagers find Ripley floating in space. It's not the same, certainly nowhere near the same scale as a thousand years of cryosleep, but that feeling of this tinted blue coldness, where everything frosted over as the centuries rolled past while archaic machines worked incessantly to maintain the systems and functions, that kind of just sticks with me.
