Description
I've gone too far to turn back now
And soon you'll see I'm justified
I am the modern Prometheus
Alright, since my hype is in no way dying down for this musical, let's bust out some SYMBOLISM ANALYSIS, YEAAAAAH!
(Also, shoutout to rinreeper for this particular style of drawing Victor - her art is beautiful and I can't help myself from drawing it AAAH!)
Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus was the original title of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel.
The Titan Prometheus in greek mythology is credited with the creation of Man from clay, hence the obvious association between him and our dear Frankenstein.
Yet, Prometheus was also know for stealing fire from the gods to give it to mankind, after realizing that his brother Epimetheus had left Man naked and defenseless.
This is gesture often associated with progress and the transmission of knowledge.
There are two ways that this connects to Victor.
Firstly, Prometheus was associated with human advancement, and during the romantic period, too much advancement, especially in the sciences, was seen as dangerous and overreaching.
Prometeus was punished for bringing fire to mankind, much like Victor was for having the audacity to defy nature and try to create life.
Secondly, although Victor may call himself a modern Prometheus, he misses the importance of the key second part of the myth.
Victor, although giving life to his creation, abandons the Creature, forcing the poor wretch to discover fire, and hence understanding, all on his own.
The Creature is left naked and defenseless, with no fire of knowledge to guide him, no benevolent Titan to aid him.
And as much as Victor may claim that reanimation is the fire that will raise mankind to a new tomorrow, it is a wasted flame if he does not also bring fire to his own creature.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I like the symbolism! Seems like an interesting look at the idea. I also like the way you did the flames and the crumbling pieces of ribbon.
