well w/commish and AT's, how i draw characters always depends on the reference given to me. I like following the look; almost religously so.^^ If they give me a reference w/uber large eyes then i'd automatically think its how they'd want the character to appear no matter if its a guy or girl.
For personal art though i will always draw what i want to draw and it so happens i like cute stuff. I'll prolly tend to stick to drawing cuter characters there's no changing that hehe~
