Description Back when I was in college and I was about 22 years old, I had a wonderful wonderful art teacher who I had printmaking classes with. Being one of the only teachers that encouraged me to do what I loved the most and not worry about being a designer instead of an illustrator, she let me draw my characters to my heart's content. As a result I made lots of sketches before making the series of etchings I needed to do. Me? I loved the sketches and hated the etchings because I had little to no control about how they came out.

These sketches amuse the hell out of me because I remember how everyone looked at me as if I was out of my mind since I was drawing a "evil, sadistic and violent" scene being a sweet innocent girl (that's how everyone percieves me). I think people criticizing me everytime I did something that wasn't "cute and cartoony" made it so I became ever so self concious of expressing myself freely. And well, I can't help it. A side of me is absolutely in love with comic books, blood, violence and fantasy.

Anyway, I like the sketches but the etching (which is not included in these scans) came out hideous and I think I lost a lot of the flow and freedom of the image as I tried making the sketch look more finished. I also made the axe a little too big and in the wrong angle. But hey, it's a inside look of how I sketch, making tons of small sketches and then deciding for one and then not be happy with the results

In this scene my character, Garef, on the left, finds out just how violent his buddy, Todar, can become.

That's totally awesome! I love seeing this sketches of yours, how they are taken at different angles, and the movement and life in the sketches which probably aren't found in a finished refined piece to the same degree. Wonderfully expressive

"And well, I can't help it. A side of me is absolutely in love with comic books, blood, violence and fantasy." Hee hee, that's like me ... except for me, it's more blood, violence, fantasy, and bad sex jokes X3

Which is kind of ironic, because I'm actually pretty prudish :b

Thanks, I do think that I've always been better at sketching than at finishing the drawings. I can never quite capture the movement and life of the sketches.

That's cool, although I would never think of you as prudish as in being too closed to anything sexual. Maybe you're just open minded but reserved?

Heh, well, I think what it is is that sketches allow a direct translation of movement through partially sketched lines - you can actually literally see the movement and life, whereas with a finished picture doesn't usually have that.

Hehehe... Well, I'm prudish in my own Jennish way. I have my quirks and personal rules regarding sex, but I am generally open-minded about stuff, although it's actually a pretty touchy subject in some respects (which is hidden underneath all the jokes and giggling). I could go into details, but I don't know if you'd care to hear them X3 It's one of those subjects I know some people avoid like the plague.

That's why I love sketches...

I see. I'm pretty open minded about hearing anything to do with sex but I'm really reserved when it comes to sharing, so some people see that as prudish and think they can't talk about it in front of me. But it really is just the way I am, I hardly share anything with people I don't know and/or trust and sex is one of those things I usually don't share anyway.

Ahhh, yeah, I can understand that. See, with me, I'm sort of the same way - I'm not one of those people who will happily blab all the graphic details to another person right in the middle of public where everyone can hear them O_O. Depending on the person and the circumstance, that actually might rub me the wrong way.

What I don't mind is making suggestive puns - things that are actually pretty innocent, but can be taken in a totally non-innocent way, too. Y'know. Sandwiches, and cookies X3 (Jayli says, "Stop staring at my cookies!!") I also don't mind having talking about it generally - it's when it gets personal and real and graphic that it will start bothering me.

And the reason why I'm sort of weird about it all has to do with my family issues - I've grown up with a lot of infidelity around me, and that's why Hister is the way he is. Stuff that makes me think about that, or makes me feel insecure in my own relationship (I'm easily jealous, because I'm sensitive about relationship stuff) will really bother me.

Dunno if that makes any sense :b

I totally agree with you. No babbling graphic details in public and I enjoy suggestive puns although I rarely make them myself.

In a way I guess it also has to do with my upbringing and the insecurities that still haunt me about myself, but mostly it's just because I just don't like blurting out things just 'cause.

It's sad to hear about the infidelity in your family and it's even sadder to hear that is one of the reasons Hister is so... weird. I hope you can overcome your fears and insecurities in your own relationship Those can be nasty sometimes.

Oh good, you do enjoy a little innuendo X3 It's one of the few ways I keep a little fun and amusement in my life. That, and Luke. Precious Luke... ...

Yes, it really is. 'Specially when one's life is difficult, which is pretty much everyone's.
