Splinter had a philosophy, that while not the driving force behind the teenage aesthetic of the turtles is clearly part of who they are as a unit and a family. There's nothing about this turtle that fits in that family. It's not a small personality thing like Donnie being intelligent and having an interest in tech. your guy reads like he came from and entirely different lifestyle altogether. He doesn't look like he would be one of the siblings that could hang with the guys or was even raised in the same household.

I was wondering if maybe your design might have been intended to fit with the punk frogs perhaps, as he certainly would mesh well within their group and they remain a part of the turtles extended continuity.

Β I actually enjoyed the baseball player turtle, but the artist mentioned where he came from and it fit. I'm just trying to make sense of this one in context. I could see so many directions for a character like this, but none of them place him within the core group.

There's nothing nitpicky about questioning blatant and obvious choices within the design. Once you move past body and physical features every remaining choice from clothing to weapon says something about the personality and character, so that's where the questions arise.

Seriously who's tags? Why does he have them? How did he get them? Why does he look like he's in his 40's? Why if he made the choice to deviate from every other aspect of the ninjitsu lifestyle would he still wear a mask like the others? How in your mind could this character grow up in THAT household and still wind up as the guy that you have presented?

His look goes far beyond a hobby or an interest here or there. This is a character in appearance who has chosen a lifestyle that is extreme in difference from the others. I mean consider the following... If say he watched a lot of western, that means that with four siblings around they would be default have to give up their tv time for him to do so and therefore would be moderately influenced in a similar fashion. Or maybe he is like Mike and reads his entertainment in comic form often enough, well that's still going to put him at odds with the other 4 as he starts to act and dress that way in the middle of New York where they all feel a strong attachment to the city... He would wind up more at odds with them that Raph. He would be alone.

So it makes more sens possibly that he grew up separate from them... Hence not raised by splinter.

ok... obviously he's raised by someone other than splinter, somewhere outside of new york.. So I don't see why his name should reflect the naming trend of the other four... 2 this guy is in no way a teenager. 3 I'm wondering who's dog tags those are... and 4 if you're going to take away everything about him that reads ninja... I'd probably ditch the ninja mask along with it.

It's just too much that's not making sense.

I honestly can't tell if you're joking or serious.
I don't mind criticism, but all of your criticisms are nitpicks that don't really say much about the design or image over all.
I made this character as part of an art jam to design a 5th Turtle based on the 2014 movie. The movie designs exaggerate the Turtles' personalities (i.e. Donny wearing big, dorky glasses so we know he's "the smart one"). I thought that if there as a Turtle who was kind of a redneck, that movie would have given him an over the top redneck appearance. This isn't a fan character I made seriously or that I'm going to use in a fanfic. Its just something I made for fun. Furthermore, if this bothers you, don't look at any of the other entries in the jam. Pretty sure one guy made a baseball player Turtle.

Most of your nitpicks don't even make sense. Why couldn't he have been raised by Splinter? Splinter has no mechanical knowledge yet Donny does. He didn't teach them skateboarding but Mikey loves it. Why couldn't one of Splinter's students enjoy hunting or culture of the American South? I know he doesn't look like a teenager but, again, I was sticking to the designs from the 2014 movie, where the Turtles were basically Hulks with shells.
