Kai was a man in the middle class. He lived in a large city. One day while walking on the sidewalk, he ran into a wall. It knocked her to the ground. She did not expect a wall to be there but that was not the strangest thing about it.

Looking at herself, Kai discovered she had the body of a young girl. She did not know where she was. It looked like an entirely different country. It was a cold night and she was wearing a knee length brown dress. She needed to find warmth but she had no idea where to go.

Kai guessed the girl whose body she occupied had a home somewhere but she had no idea where she was. She checked for money but found none. All she found was a box of matches that she might have to use later.

People walked past her in both directions without even glancing at her. None of them were likely to know where her home was. It was doubtful they would tell her even if they did. Kai started to cry. The sudden change of bodies, the cold, and the poverty were just too much for her to handle.

Kai tried walking around but the people still ignored her. The stores were closing and the people were heading home. She had nowhere to go. She found an abandoned alley, gathered together enough garbage to start a fire, and used one of her matches. They would keep her warm, at least for the time being.

While watching the fire, Kai fell asleep. The sound of singing could be heard. She saw candles hanging from the walls above her. A door at the end of the alley that had not been there before opened up and she stepped through.

On the other side was a large ballroom. An entire orchestra was playing on one side of the room while various rich couples were dancing. Kai appeared to be the only child there. In the center of the room was a large table filled with all kinds of food. She helped herself but found herself unable to eat any of the food.

That was because it was all a dream. Kai was woken up by a couple she assumed to be her parents. The fire had gone out some time after she fell asleep. They asked her where she had gone and told her how worried they had been. She just said she got lost.

No questions were asked. They took Kai home where she could get warmth, food, and rest. She had many questions about her situation. Was this a dream within a dream? How did she wind up like this? Was she going to stay this way? She did not actually ask these questions because she did not think her new parents had any answers.

Her parents took her to a run down house on the other side of town. The house kept most of the cold out and they had enough food to keep themselves alive. Although they did not have much, it was enough.
