It was the day of the eclipse. Grant had spent many days preparing for it. Unless he decided to travel to remove parts of the world this would be his only chance to see a total eclipse. The planetarium had given him a safety viewer and showed him how to use it. As he looked up at the sun, he felt strong and confident as if empowered by the sun itself.

Grant drove to the other side of the state. The location was well within the line of totality, the skies were clear, and a crowd had gathered to watch the event. He did not recognize anyone there but they acted like they knew each other because they were all there for the same event. A strange woman looked at him as if expecting something to happen to him. It made Grant feel uneasy so he moved away from her.

As the moon gradually blocked more and more sunlight, Grant felt weaker and weaker and less and less confident. His masculine features faded away. He looked less like a man and more like a woman with short hair. His male organs retreated inside his body where they faded away.

His clothing changed too. Grant knew it should not be possible but it should not have been possible for his body to change either. His long sleeved shirt became a blouse, his pants became a full length skirt, his shoes became a pair of flats, and his socks changed from white to a bright yellow. The hair on his head grew out, all body hair disappeared, his breasts grew, and he developed some feminine curves. By the time the eclipse became total he, or she, had become fully female.

Somehow she knew her name was Greta. Grant was just something she had once been called but that name was no longer needed. Despite everything, Greta continued to view the eclipse knowing she would never get another change like this one.

The strange woman approached Greta. This time she let her approach. Compared to everything that had happened to her, the woman was not that strange.

"The gift of nature is inside you," the woman explained. "For most of your life, the only power you knew was that of the sun but the eclipse has given you a chance to explore your other powers. With your dominant power of the sun suppressed, those powers have surfaced causing a metamorphosis. Even when the sun reappears you will not change back. This is what you have become with the new emerging and blending with the old creating a new form for you."

"Why did this only happen to me?" wondered Greta.

"They do not have these powers but you do," replied the woman. "You have a rare and precious gift. Use it wisely."

Greta and the woman continued to talk as the sun reappeared. Feeling of strength and confidence returned to her but she did not change back. She had no idea how she would explain her transformation to her friends and family but that was not her biggest concern. Greta, formerly Grant, had the power of nature inside her but she had no idea what to do with it.
