This caption marks my one year anniversary on DeviantArt. Since I have used many pictures from old anime shows, I thought I would use a picture from Ranma 1/2 which is the most famous gender bending anime of them all.

Conrad was just a squire when his village was attacked. A gang of wizard outlaws invaded the village and randomly changed the villagers into animals, inanimate objects, and even other people who were less capable of fighting. Whether random or intentional, Conard was not as badly harmed by their magic as the others. He had been changed into a girl who was roughly the same age but still able to fight.

Despite the incredible odds against Conrad, she continued to fight off the wizards and even managed to knock one of them to the ground. The wizard outlaws were known for their cruelty, but they also knew how to take advantage of their situation. They told her they would change all the villagers back to normal if she would bring them the Staff of Sunlight. Even though they did not know its location, they knew it was somewhere nearby. She had one year to find it or the changes would be permanent.

Renaming herself Colette, she agreed to the quest. The first thing she did was search in her own village. The wizards let her do this as they put the animals in cages and gathered the inanimate objects into a pile. Finding nothing, she continued her search in the neighboring villages. Some, but not all of them, had already been attacked by the wizards. This enabled her to figure out where the wizards had come from and where the Staff of Sunlight was most likely to be.

Colette headed in that direction. After searching some of the villages there, she came across a mountain range. An investigation of the area led to the discovery of a river that flowed into a cave. This was very unusual so Colette followed the river to see where it went. She travelled for a while in near darkness with only her torch lighting the way until she came to a part of the cave with light.

The river led to what appeared to be a lake. In the center of the lake was an island and in the center of the island was some sort of staff floating in the air. Although the entire area was surrounded by rocks as high as the mountain range, there were no rocks above her allowing her to see the sun.

Colette had no doubt this was the Staff of Sunlight. She swam over to the island and prepared to grab the staff. Before she could, there was a bright flash of light. Colette instinctively covered her eyes. When she opened them again, a wizard was there. He was old with a long white beard. Despite this, he seemed quite energetic.

"Only the pure in heart can take the Staff of Sunlight!" bellowed the wizard. "Why do you seek its power?"

Colette explained to the wizard what happened to her village and the demands the other wizards had made. The wizard decided that instead of giving the staff to Colette, he would head with her back to the village and take care of the problem personally. Along the way back, they made plans. The wizard seemed certain he could take care of the other wizards all by himself and she trusted him. Magic was the only thing that could explain what happened in the cave.

They reached the village mere hours before the year was over. The wizard made himself invisible and told Colette to bring all the wizards together. She did this by announcing she had found the Staff of Sunlight and she wanted them all to see it. When they were all together, the wizard appeared and used the Staff of Sunlight to turn them all to stone. Then he proceeded to change all the villagers back. He started with the animals, then the inanimate objects, then the elderly, then the toddlers, and finally Colette herself became Conard again.

Conard the squire told his knight, who had been some kind of rodent, about his adventure. For his bravery and heroism, Conard was knighted. The villagers did their best to continue with life as usual though nothing really seemed the same. As for the wizard, he returned to his cave knowing his legend would only grow. If Conard ever needed his help again, he knew where to find him.
