Oswin lived in an Eastern European village in the middle of the nineteenth century. He was having trouble in school. Children and adults alike simply did not notice him. His athletics, intelligence, and social skills were all below average but not so far below average that it motivated people to help him. He felt like if he just disappeared one day no one would even notice.

One day while studying a lesson in school, Oswin noticed a small hole in the wall next to his desk. A small family of mice emerged from the hole and began scurrying about. At first they ignored him just like the humans did but then one of the younger mice started squeaking to him. The other mice approached and began squeaking as well. It was clear they were trying to communicate.

Neither the teacher nor the other students noticed this despite it being quite an unusual sight. Oswin reached into his lunch and ripped off a small piece of bread. He fed it to the mice. They eagerly squeaked in gratitude. He was beginning to understand what they were trying to say. As this revelation occurred, his body began to change.

His body became much smaller. Mouse ears appeared on his head and a tail grew out of him. His clothing changed into a blouse and skirt with matching shoes and socks. The human ears he once had disappeared as they were covered up by his growing hair which stopped at his shoulders. His entire body changed from a boy into a girl, a mouse girl.

Olga, which the one formally known as Oswin knew was her new name, went over to join the family of mice who were now the same size she saw. To her surprise, these mice had human features just like she did. They only appeared as mice to those who did not know any better.

It was no problem for Olga to join the mouse people and become part of their family. The teacher and the other students just saw her as a mouse, if they even noticed her at all. They did not even notice one of the students had disappeared. For the most part, she remained unseen.
