Edgar did not trust the stuffed animals. When he first got a job at the local toy store, things were more or less as expected. Then he had to stock the aisle containing stuffed animals. A strange glow came from their eyes. It made him feel uneasy.

Edgar dismissed it as just his imagination and kept working. More uneasiness occurred. No matter where he was, their eyes followed him around despite him never actually seeing their eyes move.

Then Edgar tried an experiment. He moved from one end of the aisle to the other while watching them the entire time. Their eyes did not move. He turned his head just for an instant. By the time he saw them again, they were looking right at him.

It seemed like an irrational fear. Edgar attempted to solve it. When he could not, he thought it best to just ignore it and only go to that aisle when his job required it. Over time, they seemed more and more hostile. After a month or two, it was not just the eyes that moved. The stuffed animals themselves moved. Some of them had claws and some of them had teeth even though they should not have them.

Edgar kept his fear a secret because he did not want to risk his job. However, it was getting to the point where he could no longer ignore it. He had to confront it sooner or later. One day he was working late and given the responsibility of locking up. It was the first time he had been alone in the store, at least he hoped he was alone.

All it took was a glance at the creepy aisle of stuffed animals. The animals floated off the shelves and flew over to him. Edgar screamed as the animals surrounded him. No one else was there to hear it. He attempted to surrender to them having no idea if they would actually understand him. Somehow they did.

Beams of light shot out of their glowing eyes. The light surrounded him and transformed him. The change happened instantly. Edgar looked at himself, or herself, and did not recognize the person she saw.

She was no longer a man wearing a toy store uniform. She was a little girl with pigtails wearing a white dress. The once hostile stuffed animals appeared to like her. They flew closer to her and embraced her with love and affection.

Emily, which Edgar discovered to be her new name, grabbed as many stuffed animals as she could. She wanted to buy them but she knew she could not afford it. Then she discovered that the animals were already hers.

Her parents owned the toy store. The animals were magical in nature. They were hostile to strangers, but friendly to people who actually wanted to buy them. Even at her age she knew this was a marketing ploy but she did not care. She wanted to buy them anyway. Emily knew she would have many good times with her large collection of stuffed animals, although she still did not trust them completely.
