Amenii’s stomach knotted, involuntarily her hands snaked to her belly. ‘Oooooh…’ It had been getting worse as the hours had ticked by.
What was in that draft? Amenii wondered, not for the first time sense she had drank the contents of that damned bottle. Another twist in her belly, caused her a spasm of discomfort. Face scrunching into tight angles she let her leg thump freely, out loud she cursed. ‘Nera, I’m going to k-kill you…’

A rap on the door, was all she needed. ‘Amenii, I’m home.’ Nera’s sings song voice broke the air.

Whirling on her partner Amenii almost began a long string of a murderous retort, but one look at Nera’s face stopped her. In two quick strides, Nera was at her side holding her, and for a fraction of a moment all the world seemed at ease. Then the cramps returned.

‘N-Nera,’ She began, ‘Wh-uat was in that potion? The one on the table.’

One of Nera’s hand found her belly, huge fingers rubbing her genteelly. ‘Just a little something – to make the night more interesting. You’ll find it very, festive.’

‘Festive?’ Amenii sagged into Nera’s arms. ‘Uh…is it festive to be sick to one’s stomach?’

‘Sick?’ Nera’s voice was one of alarm. ‘What do you mean by sick?’

‘Sick, as in my stomach is tying itself in knots.’

The silence spoke more than anything, it was a long moment before she spoke again. ‘Amenii, how much did you drink?...’

‘All of it…’

Nera’s body jerked, ‘Oh, dear.’

‘Nera, what does that mean?’ Amenii’s mind began racing with the worst-case scenarios. ‘What. Was. In. That. Bottle.’

‘You weren’t supposed to drink that much…’

‘What-‘
