Description
It was the day they hung Black Robin, All the skies were grey.It was the day they hung Black Robin, I stood, and watched her sway.
…
The small folk came to mock her, to jeer her on her way.
The lords looked down to judge her, and passed sentence on that day.
…
Her face was full of sorrow, but she shed not a single tear.
They stripped her of her armor, her eyes were full of fear.
…
No man around called out her name, as the jib was set in place.
And in that deathly silence, I looked upon her face.
…
Her eyes they never left me, and haunt me to this day.
Even as the rope came taught, she never looked away.
…
Her feet they jerked and thrashed around, kicking every way.
Her legs twitched and finally slowed, I watched her swing and sway.
…
Now, folk may tell their stories, and sing their back hearted songs.
Of the Beast that was Black Robin, who came from River Song.
…
They’ll never know the truth, that died with her that day.
I’ll never forget Black Robin, the day I sailed away.
C.S. Notes:
The Ballet of Black Robin is a sad song, inspired by the two sentences that are made in the book series by J.R.R. Martins: A Game Of Thrones. It is referenced as a sad song about some outlaw, but nothing else is ever detailed about it.
Years ago, I used that singular sentence to build a character around, some of you may know Ra* from the very beginning of my gallery. That masked Dragon Born, with a hawk like helm, and a griever fused to his right arm.
As the tale goes, Black Robin, was the bastard of River Song, who’s hose crest was a Robin in flight. Because his illegitimacy of birth, he took up the sigil of a black robin in flight, and later rose to become an outlaw of the neighboring lands.
With his growing reputation, other flocked to him, his Black Birds, he called them, and named them his brothers. As outlaws go, Black Robin was known for being a chivalrous rouge with a heart of gold.
That did not stop the high lords of the River lands from placing an outrageous reward on his head. It was never clear if some small folk sold him out, or if it was just ill luck, but the knights of the River lands fell upon his band one day.
Wounded in battle his brethren carried him back to the Black forest. The knights had given chase though and quickly discovered the outlaws lair. With only one way in, a narrow passage made of wood, entry would have been costly and so the decision was made. Fire was to be the weapon of choice, to burn the Black Birds in their own nest. Yet, it was the honor of Sir Kander, who appealed to Black Robin, to surrender himself, and in turn he would spare the lives of his remaining comrades.
Unknown to Sir Kander, Black Robin’s wounds were graver than any knew, and he was expected to be short lived for the world, and there in lay the problem. No man outside of the Black Robins Birds had ever seen the outlaws face.
And in that moment, another took his place.
Some say it was for love, others, loyally, some even say she was coerce by her brothers to act, and in the end, Black Robin walked out, clad in black leather, her head held high, and head held high, she was marched to the gallows.

If you really want to track Black Robin back to my retelling of the story, then no, Black Robin was Dragon Born from the Dungeons and Dragons universe. Following the death of his love that took his place, he set out on a suicide run to try and kill all those responsible for her death. Hacking up the food chain he was finally killed by a high lord, who entombed him to be forgotten.
And so he lay dead for several years, until he and a greater following of undead were brought back to life by a powerful necromancer.
Selected for further experimentation to enhance the abilities of undead, Black Robin gained a meager portion of his life back. It was the intention of the necromancer to make this Dragon Born his field commander, but the ritual had several unforeseen side effects.
Fragments of memory returned with the ritual, not much at first, but enough that Black Robin was begining to remember who he was. Renaming himself Ra, he took up the call to arms, and was granted additional powers, with such powers came costs, and the now reborn Ra needed a way to recharge the energy expired. Thus, a gauntlet was fused to his right hand and fore arm, that allowed him to siphon energy from the living.
This traumatic process leaves Ra in a constant need to feed, or he begins to die. Now he walks the earth, trapped between the living and the dead, slowly marking off the list of those he had sworn to kill.

Thank you, when I build a character I always try and give them a good backstory. Ra was one of my favorite ones.

Thank you, and yea, lots of feels, just look at those eyes, how they hold you.
I had wanted to go into greater depth with her story, and that of Black Robins, as it would have been quite fun to bring them to light.
Maybe in the future.

So the real Black Robin was the one who composed the ballad...it was their way of honouring the person who died in their place.

I suspect so, it began as a story, then was picked up by a singer, and became the song it is today.

And so the Black Robin continued their noble quest for justice by robbing from the rich to give to the poor...and renamed themselves the Amethyst Horror! XD
