The Queen sat with a slouch this morning, the tedium of the day had hit its high point long ago, and the lingering events that required her attention were far below her interest.
She had abandoned her regal posture hours ago, shifting in the red brick chair that was her hoses symbol of power. The red represented the bloodline of her ancestry and had been worn smooth with countless generations.

That still did not make it any more comfortable.

‘And lastly my Queen, there is a small trifling matter of a common thief.’ Her steward droned. ‘A, grave robber you see.’

Amenii felt the boredom that had held her slip momentarily, only to have it return just as fast. Sighing, she waved a dismissive hand. ‘Feet this criminal to the crocodiles, may his soul never find peace.’

‘Begging my Queens pardon,’ The steward droned on in a nasally buzz. ‘But the Thief requested you to hear their plea.’

Suppressing a groan, she waved for him to bring the thief in. The story would be the same, they always were. The only thing that changed were the names and the motives behind the act. With a shake of her head, she leaned back and waited for the return of the steward with the guards.

Rather than enter through a side passage, the guards had opted to enter through the main gates, the tall wooden doors banging open with an ominous creek as the thief was dragged before her.

Amenii straitened in her chair, there was something odd, about this thief.

‘Show me his face.’ She commanded.

A guard reached down, taking a handful of the thief’s bushy hair and pulled up. The face of a young hyena stared back up at her. Amenii drew in a small gasp of surprise, not just a hyena, but a woman full grown.

For the briefest of seconds their eyes met. The Thief’s burned a bright green, just like hers.

Amenii swallowed hard, knowing what was to come next.
