Description The package was heavier than he had expected. That made him nervous, Sirse had a way of sending the oddest gifts and Valentines was no exception. Turning to the slime mold that had taken up residence in the house.

‘She knows me too well.’ He muttered. ‘She knows how much I hate this holiday.’

Blowing out a deep sigh, he let himself sink into the padded chair behind the clutter of his desk.

‘The whole thing went downhill after they stopped feeding people to the lions anyways.’

The slime mold regarded him with a passive stair.

‘And your no help. You know that right?’

The slime mold did not make any response.

‘Well there is no putting it off.’ Tugging at the edge of the package delicately he pulled back the corner, ripping the end off, and emptying the condense onto the table.

Before his sat an ugly bundle of rags, that after some poking at revealed a worn tactical vest with a single world escribed on the back: ‘Shark’. The cloth was worn, tattered really, and there were several puncture holes through one side and out the other.

‘Damn.’

The Past:

‘What the hell happened to your face?’

‘A shaving accident, with a Ripper on full throttle.’

‘Right. So you going to tell me why you are really here?’

‘I’m here, because of a fox. You ever hear of one of them things? Nasty beasts, imagine a Death Claw, with the temper of a Yao Guai, and then wrap the whole thing in a crimson coat, blood red – from all its victims!’

‘And your, hunting this, this, Fox thing?’

‘No. I’m here because the damn thing thinks this little vacation will be good for my health.’

‘…’

‘Please tell me there is Vodka here.’

That it does! Or at least it acts as a means to take the edge off, long enough for one to work on solving the problem.

As am I to write about it, though like working though a lens one has to mask the past just enough, yet not warp it to far as to loose its truth.

That must have been something fearsome to take down someone like that.

In search of something, maybe a good physiologist. Yet there is something simplistically therapeutic about life in such an inhospitable environment.

Just find a decent coffee would be enough.😏

Lol Funny fact: In Fallout New Vegas you can brew Black Coffee, if your survival skills are high enough. Though requiring 75% completion in the Survival branch and being able to find the ingredients this one makes for a tough call. Much easier to go down to the local merchant and ask them for a bottle of spirits, much cheaper too.

Oh yeah......too bad you cant find military rations.
I read in Fallout there was a way to make a glue out of plants rather than turn over every box between levels just to find glue.
But this takes resources and such like you say.

Funny you mention that... In one of the most inhospitable areas in on the map, where the ground has been ripped open, buildings torn in half, and the ever present sand storms have flayed the skin off of even the ghouls you can find MREs still. Aged, irradiated, but still quite edible.

'What the hell are you eating...'

'Its called an MRE.'

'But you cant tell what's inside it from the wrapper!'

'Say's the man who is eating a giant irradiated scorpion leg.'

Haaaa!

Don’t forget the challenge.
In the MRE is a large cracker type edible.
The dare is to eat this mass without any water to wash it down. It will choke you.😬
The older......the drier and more......powdery.
Like a mouth full of soft drywall.
Yummy.

Oh God... Those things. I still recall those with stark terror. I used to have quite the stock of old MRS and would take then out on camping trips as a means of making the experience more enjoyable. Or at least to build character. Lots and Lots of character.

The only way to ingest that cracker was to slather it in the peanut butter and jelly, this made it more bearable. Those crackers always reminded me of a type of saltine cracker you find at the restraints - though bigger, much bigger, and circular, oh and they had the consistency of hard tack.  And the flavor to match.
