Description

Packed in the subway rail car, Mina hugged her plastic bag tightly to her side.

She had paid for her grapes and was not going to let anyone steel them out from under her. The plastic bag thumped against her hip as the train car swayed, rattling along the tracks as it went. Doing her best to ignore the stairs of the others on the tram, she looked anxiously up at the rotating letters showing where the tram was bound to.

Half the names were unfamiliar to her but he had taught her to recognize a few of the more important ones. Hers was number 425-G on the silver line, and it was still several stops away. Mina almost regretted getting on the tram car, as every time she did it left her feeling uneasy. There were to many eyes, it was too crowded, and she always seemed to garter more attention than she wanted.

Last week alone a cheetah had grasped her by the shoulder and pulled her into an unexpected half hug before flashing her with their phone. They had insisted that she was on the wrong track for the cosplay, had laughed and then moved off leaving Mina confused and shaken. After that she had made sure to position herself as close to the tram’s wall as possible. Next to the doors was better, where she had learned where the emergency exit latch was positioned.

Today however, she had not had that option. The tram was packed, and she found herself wedged in with a large crowd of people she had never met. Most seemed content to ignore her, but others, were not so kind. She had heard a few snatches of whispered conversation and seen them point her way. That had made her nervous and clutching her treat closer to her chest she chanced another look at the display.

Fifteen more minutes until her stop, her heart was beginning to race in her chest. The more she looked at the other across from her the more sinister their appearance became, the one in the suit had cold eyes and seemed to be looking at her as though apprising a new car. The woman with her small child was openly leering at her, hugging her newborn closer to her side as though darning Mina to take a step near them. She would have backed away, but there was just no room.

No room, there was just no room she thought as the rail car came to a stop, the doors opened, and even more bodies pressed in filling the spaces all around her. She was being displaced, squeezed in between a wall of undulating flesh that rolled around her, crushing her!

Her hold on the bag tightened, her knuckles whitening as her breath came in short gasps, eyes flicking around she looked for the door. Where was the door, she couldn’t see it! She couldn’t see the walls either, they, there were to many people around her, touching her, pressing against her.

Taking a step back she bumped into a tall built figure, looking up she wish she hadn’t as the disproving from fixed on the mans face made her wince way. She tried to push free, but the more she struggled the more they pushed back.

‘Hey!’

‘Watch it!’

‘Stop spimming!’

She spun around, terror beginning to take hold, they were staring at her! Huge creatures, terrible, their eyes burring with accusation and malice.

‘H-Help!’ her voice came out in a squeak, somewhere in her flight she had dropped her grapes. ‘Help –‘
