Description
I've decided to take a spriting route and leave the drawing stuff alone for now...The robot's are coming...
Here's one of my new sprite scenes that i'm doing. (It turned out better than i expected, it was orignally gonna be the terminator!)
I made it as i went along (yes, believe it or not, i did not plan this piece at all!)
Comments plz and crictism where possible (i would ask for critques but i don't have preminium membership)
Note: resized bigger so you cans see detail a bit better.
2nd note: To all of the old downloaders, i have changed the text colours, so if you wanna redownload this it's up to you.
Also, DO NOT CLAIM AS YOUR OWN.
If put on any other websites (don't know why it would be! XD)
at least give me some CREDIT PEOPLE! and a link to the site would be nice! XD)
thanks.

Hot dayumn, this looks a helluva effort!
Only criticism I'd give is as previously said, incorporating the text in a different manner, but I think a less symmetrical foreground character, or at least a less symmetrical shading would benefit the design well (how hard that may be I'll have to discover for myself when I finally decide to do my first foray into pixel art). OuO
Nice job!

Thansk xD yea i do need to do something about the text on this one
Weel with the symmetrical shading this was one of the first ones i created when i started spriting, so i couldn't be bothered to do a light source hitting it effect. But i could give it a shot now that i know how to do it xD

This is fantastic! I was working on a very similar scene (robot with burning city behind him) in a sprite-like fashion, but this puts it to shame. Awesome!

eh, I had the "infrastructure" laid out. the scale of yours is incredible, and I dig the overall intensity.

Yeah Im digging this code14!
I think you should focus on your original work instead of the fanart. Just use that for inspiration, hey I love metal slug too (Even has an X-arcade ).
As for criticism I would suggest dropping the text alltogether or try to incorporate it more in the image. Perhaps it would look cooler if the text was much bigger and the robot would tower above that text (you'd only have to make the "buste" for the robot and then place the burning city inside the text or in the backdrop, leaving some black space around the piece ? You could try whatever you think would look cool but the text doesn't seem to do it for me like it is now.
Perhaps I'm preaching to the choir here but I think you should check this stuff out: [link]
I wish you all the best !

Yes for metal slug! xD
Yea i struggled to get the text right since i included the text part...
I take on your advice and thanks!

Thankyou for linking me to this....I have to say, it is brilliant!
I am old enough to remember the pixel games of the 16 bit era (and before) and this would've looked great in any one of those classic games. You have done a superb job and made every pixel count.
If you are working on any games I would like to know which games?
If not, i must suggest you lend your skills to those guys out there who need people with your skills.
Brilliant.

Thanks!! XD
Y'know i wish i was working on any games, but at the young age of 16 (Just finishing my GCSEs and yet to pass my A levels! XD) it may not happen for a whiles .
At the moments it's either fan art or my own work.
I'm aiming for eventual game creations! XD

I had no idea of your age.
You have a skill.
I don't know how games will look in the future but there will always be a love for pixel art, look Up Dan Malone on D.A, and check out his work on such games as The Chaos Engine and also Speedball 2 (Amiga)

Yes...surprised, the skill you have is superb.
I don't know how much you know about the 16 bit era (Snes, Megadrive and Amiga) but some seriously classic games, including Sonic were born in that ear (now you know my age, haha!)

I know bits and bobs... (ok, not much i admit, but i see most of it when i use the spriters resource website)
i missed the 16 bit era myself ( i did play on a Snes once, but thats kinda it XD), i was and still am a N64 player!( my N64 still works XD)
I do have a Namco box thing with 5 classic games on it though (Pac-mans for da win XD)
I started sprting under the influeneces of Metal Slug, which was probaly around the 2003 when i first played it (i loved it the minute i saw the box XD), and started spriting and custom editing it and other games around the 2007-2008 period, which is when i got into the world of spriting.

you have a good reference to work from, true spriting was born out of lack of memory space (back when games had to fit in just 1 or 2 meg of memory)
Metal slug is the best example of spriting animation to date given that it had no memory limitations, not like the old games had.
Dan Malone is still regarded as pretty much the finest 16 bit spriter of his age, given the limitations I have mentioned, his work was nothing short of incredible.
If ever you work on a game, please let me know, I love old school games!
Your work would be amazing animating in such a game, maybe hook up with some programmers on The gamemaker forums?
They would kill for your work man.

Don't worries, i definately will.
I've never been on a game makers forum, perhaps i'll give them a try sometime.
Metal Slug's rich textures and character movements is what really got me interested into it.
Unfotunately's, the creativeness fell a bit flat in MS4 when they just reused everything, but i still love it!
It just so happens i'm making an art piece based round the metal slug aliens... methinks you will like the finished result!

It never used to be mine, I used to love pixel art!
Good to see an artist of your age enjoying the pixels.
I will be keeping an eye out for your work.
I have several painting on the go and also several projects (some won't see the light of day, as these things do)
oh, check out one of my friend on here called 8pixelshigh, you might like his work

XD I know how you feel, having so many projects with so little time!
As long as they keep produced good pixel games, i'll always love the pixel art!
I've seen Eboy's work, epic cityscapes! (Methinks i need more practice and time before i consider attempting something like that.)

At a guess, i'd say about maybe 15-20 hours combining the background and the robot itself.
As for indivdually, i have no idea... (i kinda lost track of time... listening to music marathons whilst spriting does that to you! XD)
